1. I adore line dried laundry.
The fresh air fragrance, the old tyme methodical process behind it, even the downhome look it has.
I recently had some relatives over, and they made mention of the laundry I had flapping in the breeze at the time. I actually rarely give it a thought. It's something I just do. I have a dryer, but I just prefer this.
I cannot WAIT to hug and sniff my son's shoulder once he puts one of these on. :)
Not only do I love the topic and could tell you story after story from my childhood about all things laundry, (trust me, I could dredge up a story out of a rock in a ditch if you so please) I really have another point to make in this post. Actually make that EIGHT.
2. My son is going to TH camp!
All these awesome clothes are new as of today. My son is going to the amazing Tim Horton's camp next week for 10 whole days! (I'll tell you more about THAT next week!) And the packing process entailed clothes and lots of them.
3. Amazing wardrobe for a song!
And since my son was down to the (dirty) ones he was wearing on his back, we hit the thrifts. A whole wardrobe for $75. Not bad!
4. Hanging laundry is pretty!
Such a pretty colourful banner these clothes make, don't you think? I left this picture file super big so if you click on it, it'll fill your screen silly. I love this view.
5. It's HOT out.
Just curious.. have you noticed I'm sitting in the shade? We have a little bit of a heat wave going on right now and we in the Soggy Wet Coast aren't yet climatized to all this sweating. So here I sit. Watching clothes dry. (it's too hot to watch paint dry)
Know what I should be doing?
6. I'm procrastinating.
I may be finally convinced that it's now time to yank this plastic smurf city into place once again. Maybe. I know. I should. But it's so stinkin' hot!
Button nag... oh kay OKAY!!!
Anyone else into a 1 week challenge? Can you get something done within a week before the GD2 link closes? Come ON. I hate doing stuff I hate doing alone.
7. The GD 1 WEEK CHALLENGE!
I hereby announce this is a 1 WEEK GD CHALLENGE. Yeah, big 'ol rule change because I need enticement too.
Besides, I can't pack yet. The clothes are still wet. Yeah. I got some time. Wait.. maybe I'll just go and check to see if the clothes are dry, leaving me no time at all for the pool... oh deary me.
8. Ignore my whines and go check out a good deal on something cute.
On a less procrastinating note, I have a little something to share and an offer you can't refuse over at the Sponsor Store. Good till Monday. If you like pretty things, this is for you. :)
Click HERE for some pretty poppin' madness coming your way! And for a song!
Now what was this post about again? Oh yeah.
Do you line dry your laundry every chance you get too? And is it hot your way? And do you have a project you could whip up in a week? And do you deserve something pretty that you too are denying yourself?
Oh my, that *is* a fantastic view! Please come by and join my first ever link party Vintage Suitcase Friday!
ReplyDeleteWhat, do you get on one of your old ladders to hang laundry? It looks to be hanging from the sky! How the heck do you reach it?
ReplyDeleteA one week challenge? I only have a day as I am hitting the road on saturday. You do something extra for me, okay?
I love line dried laundry too. In fact I won't wash my WeeMan's cloth diapers unless it's a sunny day just b/c they dry so much better on the line.
ReplyDeleteAnita, I hang my laundry from the 2nd level patio off the kitchen. Good point!
ReplyDeleteAs to the extra task? Um... sure. I have to pack for camp. I think that indeed qualifies, yes? Not fair! I wanna hit the road too!!
Donna
Excellent questions!
ReplyDeleteNo line laundry around here - too many drippy trees that stain everything .
I'm not sure about a one week challenge. Although I am putting together my daughter's 21st b-day party for next week - does that count?
What about the fireplace screen I want to make, or the new fireplace surround, or the paint on the cabinets or the....well you get the idea. The list is long and hard.
There are way too many things I am denying myself. YES, I do deserve something pretty! Now if I could just decide on what!

I love my clothesline (although I'm sure my neighbors hate it). It is pretty warm & humid here in the Midwest but not nearly as hot as the East coast.
ReplyDeleteI have always LOVED pictures of laundry hanging on the clothesline. My favorite is on a second level porch of a small home it Italy. Fun.
ReplyDeleteFondly,
Glenda
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI know this has nothing to do with your post, but I just wanted to say how beautiful your view is behind your house, and your yard looks great!!
I never line dry...are you crazy?! Just kidding (lol)!! I have four people in my family to do laundry for, so it would just take too long for me to line dry. Can you imagine how difficult doing the laundry must have been for a large family before there were washers and dryers?
Sorry, I just don't have any projects that I'm getting done right now. Believe me...I wish I did. :)
It's HOT here, too. We'll be doing lots of gardening chores this weekend in this miserable heat.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs ~ Jo :)
fun pictures!
ReplyDeletei have hung a few jeans before...but that's about it! i prefer the dryer! it has been hot here, i'm actually doing some projects this summer it's been nice :)
i have PLENTY of projects i could finish up in a week!! i hope to hang my old door as my headboard tomorrow, super excited! and who denies themselves of pretty things...as long as it's within reason, i say buy it lol!
I remember growing up we always hung our laundry out. Our clothesline was in front of the barn, and I find as I get older that I really miss that scene. Other than a bit of stiffness, you just can't beat it for freshness.
ReplyDeleteWe tried to put one up in our back yard here, and the birds pooed on anything I hung out, so I guess that's a no-go. :) I really, really wanted to hang my towels out to dry.
I'm glad someone asked about the height because that's the first thing I thought. Even though you're hanging it from the second level, how are you doing it? I don't see a roller track, or two lines. humm. 'plain that please.
I hope Cody has a great time. Send him with a camera!
Hi, Donna!
ReplyDeleteWe are line drying this summer, although it has rained for about a week straight now here in Houston.
I am going to add an additional shelf to my closet and paint it white this week. I don't know if I'll make it before the link closes, but I'm really gonna try!!!
I've been indulging in some pretty this summer already. But can you ever have enough of it???
:) Laura
I love hanging out clothes!! I found a clothes line last year behind our garage and had DH put it up. I find it is a calming type of therapy for me somehow!!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!

I love hanging clothes on the line in the sun. A clothes line pole was one of the first things I bought when I moved into my new house this spring. I use it every chance I get.
ReplyDeleteIt was really hot here about two weeks ago. Two weeks solid of 95+ heat. And? My A/C was out the entire time. Not kidding. The day after it was replaced, the temps droped back into the mid 80s. Hope you get some relief soon.
A one week challenge? I have so many projects to get done. Guess it's time to pick one and Gitter Done.
You made me just remember hanging on my mom and talking to her as she hung laundry. We lived in apartments and there was a huge community clothesline area. I loved the feel and smell of my clothes back then! Thanks for the memory!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE line dried sheets and pillow cases the best but I do dry everything other than towels on the line. Right now it's too darn humid here in Kansas for that. Plus our well water has gotten so diry from all the rain and flooding that I'll have to wait another day or so before I trust my whites to that water! I have a project I'd like to tackle but I don't think it will take a week...if I could just get myself motivated! Good luck getting your pool up...ours is up but the water is too dirty for me to get in there yet. I hate iron in the water...but that's what you put up with living in the country sometimes. OH well...it's worth it. I hope you have a wonderful Friday....Maura :)
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE our clothesline! All year long! In the Winter you'll see many Country folks hang'n clothes til it's freez~dried! I know you laughing, lol but seriously we do! Right now the skeeters are SO bad from all the rain we had ya have to make a mad dash to hang'em! I agree with Anita, it looks like your clothes are hanging from the sky! Had to laugh! We'd be climbing the silo's here to get'em up that high! Hugs~ Ginger
ReplyDeleteDon't line dry, but my Mom loves to. Loves the smell. I don't like the stiff.
ReplyDeleteyes, it is in the 90's suddenly. (hot for Oregon) Tooo hot for me!!
Will see about a project.
thanks for the sweet post and challenge.

You're all right... the line does look weird now that you think of it! Polly, the 2nd picture down shows a pole one end of the line is connected to. The other end, where I hang, is simply hooked up onto the edge of the patio, attached to a roof support pole.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, the pole that's below shares a line with my next door neighbor. Many mornings we're both out there bellowing to each other through the trees because we can see each other's laundry either going out or being hauled in. :) Her line connected to her house is ground level.
I rather like the high in the sky approach. It doesn't hinder anything we desire to do in the yard. :)
Donna
Regarding crunchy line dried clothes, did you know if you hang on a windy day, they're as soft as when you add fabric softener?
ReplyDeleteAnother bonus... I left my whites out there in the heat for 2+ days out of sheer laziness. They were BLINDING white when I finally brought them down today and not a stain to be seen. The sun is a wonderful bleach agent!
Am I not an amazing wealth of useless information?
Donna
OH! Donna, I love that view!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh..... Even laundry can look so gorgeous.. so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the 'line fresh' smell of laundry!!!
ReplyDeleteAlthough being in a victorian terraced house in a town in England, my back garden view is somewhat different!!!! But how lovely that you have a weeping willow tree to watch in yours!!!
Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend xx

I am so with you on the line drying. I dont even own a dryer. We get a lot of breeze and even in the rainy season we hang everything. Everyone told me that once I had a baby I'd change my mind and buy a dryer and he's now 16 months old and I still hang everything. I especially love the crispy feeling of the towels!!! (btw, i was going to ask the same thing, how the heck do you reach the line! LOL)
ReplyDeleteI have so many projects to do right now, I'd actually love to tackle them this weekend!
No! Sadly I don't line dry my laundry...though I love the fresh smell. We just get so much sand blowing around!!
ReplyDeleteBut I do love to "see" laundry hanging out too! It is so beautiful!
Hugs
SueAnn
I love line-drying, and laundry in general! I don't have a dryer. I love to stand and waste a few minutes watching my laundry on the line on a lovely sunny day. I am pretty OCD about my laundry.. load separation.. hanging.. folding!! It's all gotta be done right! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteIn my fantasy life, I'm standing out in the breeze in a floral print dress, my hair blowing around as I pin my linens to the clothesline while my children run in the wild flower field just feet away.
ReplyDeleteRight now, we use the dryer. Trees everywhere. No open space for a line. And thousands of birds all day, everyday would make for poopy laundry. You know that wouldn't fly for this clean freak.
The pictures are beautiful. Thanks for the "useless" tip. Really I mean thanks! I need some whiter whites. I may just put them in the sun on the drying rack and see what happens!
~K
ps - I'm not making any promises about the 1 week GD. No promises at all. (secretly I hope and pray that I will do it!)
No clothes lines here. Wet laundry and gravel roads don't mix well. I tried it when we first moved here, because yes, there is no better bleach than the sun! Alas, instead of smelling fresh and clean, we were smelling dusty. The boys were tickled pink when we took the clothesline down as it was cramping their style. That one week challenge just might work for me. I've been working on something that is taking waaaay too long, but maybe, just maybe I'll finally gitter done.
ReplyDeleteI line dry all my laundry. Makes me feel so good! I once passed on buying a house because I found out you couldn't have a clothesline! Good Grief!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first met my better half, I remember after he hugged me and I had smelled his shirt I blurted out " Did you dry this out on the line?" As soon as he said yes, I knew he was a keeper!
Great post!
Beth
My mom line dried all of the time and never used fabric softener. I was a crunchy toweled off mess when I got out of the shower. Talk about exfoliation! I think I'm ready for the challenge. I'm a first timer at sending my work to be uploaded to another blog site. Hope I don't wipe something out on this Mac! ;)bb
ReplyDeleteHey Donna! I just wanted to say Thanks for being a Top Referrer over at Hoosier Homemade in the month of June!
ReplyDelete~Liz
What a wonderful view from your backyard! Laundry on the line reminds me of my childhood. :)
ReplyDeleteMy hubby just finished the clothes line, and I'm doing laundry today. Guess where they will be drying?
ReplyDeleteWe had a sickeningly hot week here. The kind where you sit in the shade and still sweat. It's finally cooled down and I'm working on my gitter done project...I will have it posted before the week is up even if it kills me...and it might!
Just discovered your blog. Love the big picture you posted--the color of the clothes and that gorgeous view!
ReplyDeleteI rarely dry things outside as it is too humid and hot here and I'd rather just move the clothes to the dryer. :)
I have so many projects to do, but I guess my first priority is putting together my new cement mixer. If I manage to make it in time for your deadline, I'll share more about why I am so excited about this new toy!
I love the smell of line dried clothes and linens....nothing else will do on those hot summer days! I've got mine in the back and all I have to do is step out my back door and while I keep cool in the shade of the patio roof, I can hang my clothes in comfort!
ReplyDelete-Rochelle
Love, love the smell of clothes from a line!! You'd be a millionare if you could bottle that smell and sell it :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has Lupus, etc. and we use our clothes hanging time as THERAPY!! I told her hubby-to-be that a clothesline is a must for her when they get married!
I also, am like you, and have a beautiful view....no mountains....but pine trees and cornfields....a kitty walking around your ankles...how perfect....thanks for the great post, Donna!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your laundry on the line pictures! We don't have a yard...but I do hang some of our clothes to dry in our little apartment (ones I don't want to shrink!) and it makes the entire apartment smell like freshly cleaned clothes. :)
ReplyDeleteSadly, I'm too lazy for line drying, but I remember my grandmother line drying sheets when I was little, and I loved to play & hide in them.
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of hitting the thrift stores, I just blogged about that. My daughter needed multiple dressy outfit changes for her senior pics, so off to the thrift store we went.
Hanging clothes on the line is my favorite chore :)
ReplyDeleteSeasonal weather here...pretty nice!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try to get Adam's bedroom set painted/stained in a week. I'm having issues with the stained part, though. Will you hop over and give me your advice? www.onthebanksofsquawcreek.blogspot.com
No line drying here. Trees line my back yard(or rather they are kept from completely taking over the yard) and it is pollen central. With two extremely allergic people in the house it is impossible. I do miss it from my youth though. That all came to a halt the day dad ran over the clothesline with the combine!
ReplyDeleteI usually dry mine and the dogs bedclothes outside, love the way they smell.
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughter went to Tim Hortins camp. I was nervous but she had a ball. Constantly busy!
I have plenty to finish up in a week!
Its' been unbearably HOT here! Just a couple hours ago it finaly started raining. Feels great.
and yes I think I deserve something great!
#39 Katie, go Katie go! You can do it!
ReplyDeleteBad news. My pool has sprung an air leak. This is not good news. :( Will try and patch it for the 2nd time. Inflatable pool ring things are not my friend.
#40 Erin... LOL!!! But sorry for your childhood loss of your clothesline so suddenly.
What was best about a clothesline as a kid was, I was too short to hang stuff. Phooey on growing up anyway! :)
Donna
my clothesline is on a pulley so i stand in one stop and put up & take down. Maybe this is not so much exercise?! but it works for me.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I watched laudry dry on the line... that deserves a glass of sweet tea!
ReplyDeleteI love hanging out clothes. It does feel better, smell better..it is a relaxing task! My nana used to do it and my mom did it. as martha says, "its a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI hang clothes 95% of the time. The only times I don't is when the weather is uncooperative for several days in a row (rare here, thank goodness) or if we're packing to travel somewhere. I quite enjoy the chore and find it stress relieving. Weird, I know. But we find our fun where we can :)
ReplyDeleteI used to line dry all the time, even cloth diapers. BUT that all ended one day when I reached for a clothes pin to take down some clothes and a bee or wasp that was on the back side of the line stung me. ( I have had a bad time throughout my life with anything yellow and black striped.) So, I immediately quit using the line and that was many years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhich TH camp is he going to? I live about 40 mins away from the one here in Ontario...it's pretty crazy cool! I make sure to support camp day every year. Over the past few years I've had 3 of my past students attend different TH camps and they have all LOVED it. I'm sure he'll have a blast!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this time of the year and being able to hang clothes on the line. Of course last week was a challenge, it was sunny, yes, but so humid it was taking forever for the clothing to dry.
