I have some confessions to make about being in the South....

I love the humidity. Call me crazy but it feels so warm and nice! Yes, nice! Then again it's been overcast so I'm sure that has helped... but I still love how the humidity feels like nature is hugging you. REALLY!

I love the sounds coming from the trees. Locusts or ?... I don't remember. But the trees buzz. I love that trees and bushes buzz out here! It sounds like the movie Fried Green Tomatoes and sounds like hot hot summers. And I still need to find fried green tomatoes on a menu somewhere.

I love sweet tea. It's a refreshing twist of iced tea. It's tall and cold and always filled to the brim with ice and is totally out of this world delicious and BETTER than iced tea! It's grown up iced tea is what it is.

I tried funnel cake today for the first time and it was delish! Melted right in your mouth. And BBQ in the form of pulled pork is officially our new staple. (see the pics on my Facebook)

I also LOVE grits, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles and sweet tea.

I love GMC Yukon XL seats. They are so stinkin' comfy. Driving long hours is of no issue. They feel like sitting at home in a recliner. The head rests keep your back and neck perfectly straight. Love love LOVE. I am spoiled now!

Kentucky via Funky Junk Interiors

I love each state for their own amazing qualities, but I admit, Kentucky blew me away.  The deep rolling hills with tall trees, black fencing, and rural roads... just gorgeous! Kentucky is a living postcard. I'm coming back one day.

I love how amazing the GM team have been to us and and am loving hanging with so many of my fav bloggers. But my hat tips to Brittany aka Pretty Handy Girl. She is an amazing organizer, and navigator. And she takes CARE of me. ie: She walked me to the car last night for something I forgot. I LOVE this girl!

We are having such a great time! The trip is fast paced and full of laughter. Sorry I'm not showing videos but we're moving so fast here there isn't time. Will make a fun video once I get back. Count on it! We've done a little wacky filming, Junk Warrior Style. :)

So about the south? I'm in love with it. The people, the areas, the rural aspect, the junk, the barns, the houses, the greenery and even that humidity I feared so badly. I'm loving it all. And one day I want to come back and stay longer so I can take in each town to it's full potential. I now have a taste of what's out here and am hungry for more.

We are now in Alabama and have finished the route as of Saturday. Saturday night we were painting in the dark. And Sunday is the staging, and the reveal. Then it's home that night as well. Very fast, very exciting!

    I'm from NW Ohio where it is so flat. I also love Kentucky and the south. This was my 5th year doing the 127. Love it! I found enouth to fill my suv and had to call on my husband to fill his truck. Next year we will bring the trailer and head south of the boarder!

    I am so glad you got to visit the South, Donna...and even happier that you like it here! You definitely got to taste all my favorites! All my friends who visit leave here making sweet tea at home! lol I love it with lime or mint...as my dad used to say... "the elixir of life."     Your description of humidity, as in nature hugging you, makes me chuckle. What a descriptive picture of something we Southerns sometimes have trouble putting into words. To us it is something we barely tolerate! So glad you enjoyed your trip into the South lands. -from Mississippi

    Lived with your "hug from nature" my whole life. And while there are days that I wish it would just stop already because I would like a day of walking outside without looking like I just showered...it's home to me...it's a true sign of our endless summers. The tomatoes are rather appreciative of those hot, humid days too...

    I'm a Texan (kinfolk to southerners, though true Southerners may disagree, lol), but lived in Arizona for over 20 years. The dry air felt great for a while, but my skin felt SOOO much better when I moved back to central Texas - no more alligator skin ;-) Your trip sounds wonderful, and I can't wait to see the wonderful finds you pick up!

    I love your posts...your take on all the nuances that made the trip special. I've been following along on facebook....look at all your pics. I've lived in the United States my whole life and have never been to some of the places you mentioned. I have a wanderlust.....I keep waiting for the time...but I am feeling that one of these days...I'm just going to do it...seize the day! I'm glad you had such a great time and the GMC Yokon looks (and sounds) AMAZING! Have a safe trip home.

    I've lived in the south all my life & love it! Kentucky is so beautiful - it's one of my favorites too. West Virginia is my all time favorite though I am partial to my original home state.

    You can keep the humidity. I'm wondering if you're experiencing it to the fullest as dry as it's been across the country this year. It's one of the only things I don't like about the south.

    So glad you fell in love with the South!! All the things you mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what makes the South so special, so you will definitely have to come back. My favorite is North Carolina, (although I have never lived there), but I love all places and things southern---except that humidity you so enjoy, lol. To me it is like being covered with a hot, wet blanket, and I can do without it! But there is no better food on Earth, no sweeter people, no place more beautiful. Y'all come on back now, ya hear~

    And think you only seen a little bit of the South. I have lived in many places in the country and the SOUTH is my home, I love everything about it except the humidity , course its one of the things that make the South the South and the tomatoes and flowers really do love it .

    WELCOME TO THE SOUTH!!! Hot,humid,but we love our South. Wish you could come to Louisiana. I'm glad you are enjoying yourself and I can't wait to see all the goodies.
    A GMC utility vehicle is the only thing to junk hunt in. It is wonderful to put big and small things in. Don't ever under estimate the power of a woman to pack a vehicle with good junk. You go Donna!

    As much as I love the NorthEast (and even the Midwest 9 months of the year), there's just "something" about the south. Humidity aside, you can't top the beautiful surroundings and southern hospitality is unrivalled! I can't wait for the reveal. Travel safely home! Hugs, Kimberly

    What little I have seen of the South (Carolinas and Virginia) I loved it. Could pack my bags and move there I think. However, there is a restuarant here that makes delish Fried Green Tomatoes. Deep fried avocados to that are YUM! I am so wishing I was doing this fantastic yard sale. I think it is going on my list of for sure to do's! Thanks for sharing your fun!

    Now I'm hungry! Fried chicken, green beans with bacon & onion, sweet tea, watermelon rind pickles, and big slice of watermelon for dessert! Biscuits and gravy, grits, and toast w/ homemade jam for breakfast... Mmmmm mmm mmm! Having lived in the south (Louisiana and North Carolina) during some of my growing up years these are some of the foods I hold dear! So glad you are enjoying yourselves and can hardly wait for the reveal!! What a treat for you to have experienced!! :)

    We are heading down to Kentucky/southern Indiana later on this week for a mini vacation just prior to school starting...

    So glad you loved KY, my home state. You must come back the first full weekend of June and do the 400 mile yard sale which follows HWY 68 all across the state of KY east to west. My blog shows that 4 day yard sale adventure of which we did about 350 miles, as well as the 4 days we just did on the 127 all the way to Gadsden. Glad you liked the heat. It zaps every ounce of energy from me. Do they have these marathon yard sales in Canada?

    Donna, so glad you love the bluegrass/horse state. People usually have such backwater ideas about our state. Aren't funnel cakes, fried green tomatoes, and grits yummy? I'll bet you'd love cheese grits! Oh, and please, take the humidity back with you! Ugh! I hate that part!

    We all say ....welcome and come back and visit....I think any of us would say.,..you can come and spend your time in our own home....I love your comment...and the best thing about humid...is this...I am 58 most think 42,,,,yeap your skin does not age the same as it does in dry colder area's. When I go home,where I was born and raised in South Dakota,in the Black Hills a higher elevation...I feel like a prune...and dry up...I am glad you are loving the south...and yes K...is someplace I want to go...my Hubs family lived their for generations...but you need to see...New Orleans...once in your life...your camera would love it...and many in the South would say the same...come back and visit Texas...how could you not love the little spot we have just south of Austin....and your would love Austin...get those Junk Gyspies...to have you come for a visit..you will be hooked...and have some sweet tea for me....it is addicting....

    Donna, sorry but you rate as CRAZY if you love humidity! Just wait till its 100 degrees and raining, it is horrible! Other than that, yeah living in the south is just awsesome! I love funnel cakes, and fried pickles, and the people are so friendly! You are so right about Kentucky it is like driving through a post card, it is so gorgeous! All those horse farms, amazing! I am so glad you are enjoying the USA, its a great place! :) Can't wait to see what you all did with the Habitat House!!
