Spring fireplace mantel decorating ~ that never wilts

Spring is here! Well... soon. :)

But I couldn't wait another moment. I wanted to freshen up the fireplace mantel with some spring decorating.

Remember my last junk styled mantel?

It was time for a little update. I've been stealing elements off this one until there was virtually nothing left. So I decided to go for a spring look without the usual upkeep you may think.

Best way to do that? Use faux plants!

This is one of my favourite faux plants. I love the moss covering the clay pot. The issue with this guy has always been the leaves flopping over, so I tied them together with a little twine to hold things in place.

Don't you love how the twine naturally curled?

It's a mish mash of a garden / nest / junk theme. Very tone on tone with just the greens as the main show.

Don't you just love a reversible window? (see junk mantel above)

Oops! I forgot to the light the fireplace.

Just a little staging tip... don't forget to light up those fireplaces for your shots.

See how sad the photo above this one looks in comparison? :)

Bring on the popcorn and lattes.. it's movie time beside the spring fireplace! Non wilting style. :)

Have you done up a spring styled mantel yet?

  4. I use an old buffet as my surrogate mantel, and I spring-i-ed it up this weekend as well. As much as I love real flowers--for now faux hydrangeas are filling the need ;-)

  11. Loving the lighter tones of the spring mantel - the reversible window is a terrific idea, Donna. Thanks for inspiring me to lighten things up on my own mantel.

  12. Your mantel is so lovely! I, too, must use faux plants and flowers. I don't want to, however I don't have a green thumb. Working full-time and not being able to even try to take care of the flowers and plants is so difficult. I used to :) when I had energy at night....ah...to be twenty years younger. Anyway, your post has revived my dream of turning my simple builder fireplace into a beautiful stone fireplace. I would be willing to tackle it as a DYI, however hubby is NOT....oh, if only he was twenty years younger :) That man would tackle tile...hardwood flooring...a front porch....not now though :( Have a great week!!

  14. This is odd. I think I have a very similar Argentine Pears crate to the one you have. A little different in the font stlying, but I mean, how many Argentine Pear crates are out there?

I bought mine from a road-side produce stand. It wasn't even really for sale - we just have a family connection with Argentina and loved the crate.

  16. Donna love your Spring mantel. I have a church window on mine, but I need to Spring it up a bit. It's kinda hard because I have an antique clock up there that weighs a ton. No fire here today, it was in the 70's.

  18. Love your springy mantel, Donna! I brought out my faux plants too, until the real ones begin to bloom. The non-wilting daffodils are blooming happily away on my kitchen table and on the front porch table, too! :)

  23. Donna,
Your mantel (and stone fireplace) is stunning. I am in the middle of fields filled with flowers (commercial farming) so no faux flowers for The Fairfield House! But if I found some as life-like as yours, I'd doubt anyone would notice. :)
    Happy Spring!
