I'm not even sure why... that must be illegal in my hometown! But I finally made things right and took my son this past weekend.
It was an incredibly hot day. Hotter than what I experienced on my Southern road trip! But no matter. We sat and enjoyed!
You could tour the planes on the ground...
both big,
and small.
You could also walk right inside each one.
I didn't think touring inside was my thing until I went in the first.
Then I just wanted more! Every square inch is utilized.
And then there was the amazing air action.
Lots of loud and proud moments. Very loud. Very cool. Outstanding even.
We enjoyed the fabulous show while indulging in Wiggle Chips (oh my!!!) and fresh lemonade.
But just still pictures wouldn't have done this post justice.

I used to go to the air show in Toronto on the last weekend of the CNE every year. There are really no words to describe the action, the noise, all of it - you just have to be there. In fact I was there the day the wing tip of the huge transport plane hit the water and went into Lake Ontario - losing the entire crew. Thousands upon thousands of people and absolutely no sound - no sound for at least 3-4 minutes. It was eery! Needless to say that was it for the day. They weren't going to finish the air show (just one more day) but the ground crew of the plane that went down asked that they continue. The jets that fly in formation flew the "missing man formation" at least I think that's what it is called. Where they fly in formation with one of the planes not there. I'm sitting here now with the hair on my arms standing on end it was so weird. We all couldn't believe our eyes; we kept expecting the plane to come out of the water and start again. Knowing in our heads that it wouldn't happen; but hoping in our hearts we didn't see what we saw.
We can go see the planes out at Toronto Airport but from where we lived it would take over an hour. So I envy you being able to see in the planes. And one last thing, there is nothing more fine than a man in uniform.
Thoroughly enjoyed your posts and videos of your trip. I can't imagine knowing where to start and where to end up. Were you able to bring anything back with you?

When I was 21 I worked as a secretary/receptionist at a fixed base flight operation at Boeing Field in Seattle. A Lear jet stopped at our business to fuel up before going on up to Abbotsford. My bosses were flying up later in the day, but he asked me if I wanted to fly up on the Lear, they had two empty seats. So I said YES. I already had my pilot's license and loved anything to do with airplanes. It was amazing. They were playing Maria on the stereo as we landed. Basically it was just up and down from Seattle to Canada. It's certainly an experience I'll never forget! I'm so glad you were able to attend. I'm sure your son loved it.
ReplyDeleteYou got some really fabulous photos! I've never been either. I usually just sit in my back yard and watch them fly over! We were gone on Sat. so I didn't get to see the spectacular stuff. Watching them fly out today though.

amazing photography! some really wonderful work! makes me wanna look into when our area has an air show! I know we have one but never been myself. Although I have been to air shows in other states.

I loved the contrast of the shots of people wearing all sorts of ear protection followed by the silent beauty of the planes and vapor shots against the blue sky. And wiggle chips???? You don't say!

Your video (and the accompanying music) was very enjoyable to watch. An event like this makes for a fun day out for the whole family. In all the years we lived closeby the Abbotsford air show (Vancouver and surrounds) we never attended either.
ReplyDeleteWe have a local air show here in Southport (England) and our grandkids have been a few times with their dad's parents as it's very near to where they live. The kids love it and our eldest grandson (11 yrs.) is made crazy on the Red Arrows (Air Force team) who perform every year. It makes for wonderful memories to go to an air show and I'm very happy you shared yours with us, Donna. :)
