I felt so good in fact that I deemed Monday to be the day I would do one of the most procrastinated things EVER. Go get a passport.
Ever filled one of those forms out? Good grief. It took me weeks to attempt to get it all right. And I'd be half way through, lose it then have to start over. You get the drill. I also did one for my son so I experienced double the pleasure.
But a passport is very very monumental in my world and much more than just a document with a really bad grumpy looking photo tucked inside.
But a passport is very very monumental in my world and much more than just a document with a really bad grumpy looking photo tucked inside.
It's such a big deal in fact that a friend slipped me a bill and told me the passport was on him. Why would he do such a thing and why is it such a big deal you ask?
A passport meant I was giving myself permission to succeed.
And my friend knew that and wanted to help send me on my way.
A passport very simply meant, if an opportunity arose, I could tackle it head on rather than find the easy way out and say 'I couldn't go'.
A passport is an open door with many interesting paths leading to the exciting unknown. And that's scary.
And who would I be if I sat here and continued to encourage you out of your own comfort zones if I didn't reach out of mine?
"So...", I say shyly, barely making eye contact while I kick dirt with my shoe... "I guess I just gave myself permission to run with it."
EEP!!!
I'm just glad you'll be there to hold my virtual hand because I've officially run out of excuses.

Well Done. I avoid forms at all costs. It's a phobia of mine, and I'm really not joking. Happy Travels:-)
ReplyDeleteAWESOME. Congrats on the big step. My daughter and I were just saying we wanted to get passports just because but I am overwhelmed at the prospect. You've inspired me to try.
ReplyDeleteI believe you are an Aries- "to the best of my recollection" lol.. I am certain YOU can do this and it will open up a whole new world for you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on taking this step and may it lead you up the ladder to total Victory and Success.

I can't imagine you ever having an excuse! LOL Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt´s hard to believe that a passport is such a hugh thing over there. Here in Europe, you won´t meet many people that don´t have their passport. It´s feels quite weird for me to imagine that I would not be able to travel when I feel like it, kind of not being teached how to ride a bike. So from the bottom of my heard congratulations, spread your wings and fly....
ReplyDeleteI put it off for a long time too but when the law changed I had no choice. (I'm a Canadian living in the US.) It was easy peasy and made me wonder why I had put it off for so long!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine NOT having one! It does open doors that's for sure...enjoy!
ReplyDeleteUh oh...now you can take over the world. I am so excited for you. I just got applied for my 4 year old and we will be heading to your neck of the woods in the next few weeks. I cannot wait. My husband (The Canadian) had to apply from the US but it was all good. Now imagine all the funkier junk you will encounter from around the world.

My husband and I are cruisers so we got ours as soon as we heard they were considering them for that and being from Michigan, we have crossed the Canadian border many times to vacation in your country. Of my 3 adult daughters, only the youngest, doesn't have a passport. I keep telling her she will be left at the airport because they rest of us are always looking for a good travel deal. You just never know.
ReplyDeleteGetting out of your world for a bit makes it even more beautiful when you come back to it. I have been traveling a lot since I was a child and I thank my parents for this. I love to discover new places and I'm glad to hear you are making it happen for you AND your son. You won't regret it.
ReplyDeleteI JUST renewed mine that had only days left of it's five year life.... Why the procrastination? Well, first, I told myself I had to get my hair cut first, so I looked half-decent. But then I procrastinated on the haircut... And realized if I didn't get off my butt and just DO it, I would have to fill in the long form once again instead of the simpler renewal form. I need my passport for work trips to the US (never mind the multiple car trips to the Mall of America with daughter... Ahem). Any way, I just got it back with 3 days to spare... Ugly hair and all.... Geez.
ReplyDeleteGetting a passport has been on my to do list for some time. I guess I need to get off my duff and get the forms.
ReplyDeleteWow...good for you. Not having one, as you mentioned, can be a validation for fear holding
ReplyDeleteus back. If you don't have one, you don't have to
slip out of the comfort zone of stay in the familiar.
I have to admit...I don't and never have had one

Our family (5) all got them three years ago when my Mother-in-law took all 28 family members on a cruise. Our youngest has since used hers to travel between US and Canada for a work assignment. Our son has since used his to go on a European tour. I'm itching to use ours again. I dream of the Emereald Isle. Someday.
