An outdoor fairy garden... farm style

I have this barn styled birdhouse I found on THIS junkin' expedition. Seeing that fairy gardens appear to be the hottest thing in gardens this summer, I set about creating one out of the birdhouse... farm style of course!

In my front yard near the road is one very tall tree with loads of perennials begging for a focal point. When we sit on the front yard bench, we face this space, so it was the perfect spot for a fun garden focal point.

The design didn't rely heavily on purchased miniature features... mostly just sticks and stones and junky things that would make a good fit.

A perfect little stone pathway on a slight curve greets visitors at the front gate.

A few pieces of driftwood were the perfect candidates for the entry and fence, held together with heavy string.

Uh oh... monster cat invasion! There's actually a purpose for her visit.

She drinks here. Where you ask?

Within the fairy garden is a garbage can lid filled with water for the 'pond'. Freshly cut blooms provide many days of beauty. It's quite impressive how fresh they stay outdoors!

Rocks are placed inside the lid so birds (and cat) can enjoy a bit of shallow splashing.

Doesn't it look like the barn is situated amongst the tallest of trees?

They're perennials that I don't have to do a thing with. And multiply like crazy. I wish I knew what they're called. Anyone know?

 If you look to the upper right, you'll see a piece of a wheel. That's the picnic table. :) Buttons are the plates, and bolts are the seats.

Such a fun little project that couldn't have been simpler to pull off.

    Mountain Bluets or Cornflowers. I love them. Such a pretty shade of bluish purple. I love your fairy garden too. So sweet...makes me want to make one, but I have giant cats, too. :)

    this is the most beautiful mini garden I have ever ever seen.. I really wished so hard to be a fairy or a cat or.. a bird to splash in there..
    you are so talented..

    I am seeing fairy gardens pop up everywhere but yours is absolutely fabulous. Very nice idea of using a birdhouse.I love to make a smaller version in a container for on my balcony. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Bachelor buttons are the flower - I have them too! Your farm garden is very charming, love it! I make container fairy gardens - just finished a huge show this weekend with them. Lots of photos on my flickr site:

    Love your garden. I just posted some pictures of my garden center's fairy gardens. If you visit, also farther down in my posts I made my first fairy garden. I used a crate and lettered....Country Gardens....Take time to smell the flowers.....I had seen this a couple of places this year. I also have a teeny fairy garden I am working on. SO MUCH FUN.

    O now I know what to do with the rest of my rock garden...Love this do you mind if I use some of your idea....I have collected rocks all my life.I lived in SoDak and the Black Hills.Is a jewel box of for rockers....so in my front yard where water would sit ...I built up a rock garden...and my hubby is Swed and Irish...so gonome's(only lil one's permitted have moved in...they could use a place to live....and some stuff to play...love this.....you have great imagination....must be why you are on my sidebar.

    Pretty sure another name for the flowers is "centaura". They come in a few colours. I have the blue'ish purple ones as well as white and pink ones.

    When I was visiting my grand children in chicago for Mother's Day I was treated to their sweet Fairy Garden in the backyard. Miss Boo has created quite a housing project for the fairies so I have been gathering all kinds of things since then so Boo can help me build a fairy garden when she visits me at the end of this month. The base of the old cherry tree will be a perfect spot. Did you know that fairies love milk, so if you put some out for your kitty cat don't be surprised if it's all gone before the kitty has a chance to drink it. :) Really looking forward to the Fairy Garden linky party.

    Love, Love, Love your fairy garden!!!! I have been wanting to make one, what a great inspriation you are. I have an old stockpot lid that I wanted to somehow convert into a bird feeder/bath, I think I'll use it in my fairy garden now. I had thought your flowers looked like bee balm but after looking at the above links I agree with this one.
