Japanese chicken wings - 4 ingredients, and so easy!

With a blog name like Funky Junk Interiors, I wouldn't exactly call myself a foodie. :) However if you're looking for a super easy chicken dinner to make thats equally delicious, this would be it.

I don't remember where I got this recipe from (is it Aunt Judy??)  however I've had it forever and it sort of tastes like a nice rib dinner with very little fuss.

I love dinners like this on the weekend because I can throw it in the oven then go back outside and garden. :) It's also wonderful as an appetizer.

Japanese Chicken Wings

Flour 3 lb chicken wings, then fry in oil until slightly golden. Place in casserole.

Glaze

Mix together -

1/2 cup white vinegar
3 tbsp soya sauce
3 tbsp water
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup white sugar

Pour over chicken and cover. (uncover during last 10 min of baking so they get a slightly crispy coating)

Bake 1 hour, 350 degrees, basting 4 times. (basting is the secret)

Now you know what to make for dinner tonight! You'll love it. :)

A few other recipe posts I've done before are:

  1. I am going to try these since it is mostly just my (almost) 15 year old son and me most nights for dinner! I am thinking these are teenager approved? Haha..

  4. I'd recommend cutting off the wing-tips before cooking and saving them to make chicken stock later. Otherwise they get tossed aside during the meal (no meat on them). It's super easy to cut them off. I actually put together a whole instruction post on how to break down whole chickens into parts here: http://www.thebookofjimmy.com/chicken-butchery-how-to-break-it-down/

  5. looks delicious! I'm always looking for some way to tastefully cook inexpensive chicken for a family of 6. I'll be trying this soon! Would you like to share how those gorgeous carrots are made, as well? (I am such a novice when it comes to the obvious!) Have a blessed day!

    1. I was wondering if anyone would ask about the carrots! :D I just cut them lengthwise, cooked in water leaving them with a slight crunch, drained them, added a little brown sugar, butter and parsley, returned to heat until dissolved, and serve. I think they're called candied carrots.

  7. Ok this is getting to be annoying.... every time I try to comment it takes me 2 or 3 trys as my computer eats them! (on every single blog....)

I LOVE these! My mom used to make them for me when I was in high school. The only real difference was she used 1/2 cup of brown sugar and added sesame seeds (and green onion). Try it with the brown sugar next time... you will be truly amazed! And this glaze works wonderfully for ALL chicken as well as pork. (its a great marinade too!)

Thanks for the reminder... now I do believe we will be eating teriyaki chicken for dinner tonight!!

    1. Sounds awesome Peggy! I will indeed try the brown sugar route as well!

Sorry about the glitch on comments. It's a blogspot issue. When they installed 'reply comments', the scroll thing started. As soon as I figure out how to disable the reply comments, all will be well again here. Working on it!

  12. As a Junk Loser reader, there are 774 calories in a cup of sugar. How about cutting the sugar in half, or eliminating it and adding a little molasses? Ann

  13. I've decided: we are having these for supper tonight! Don't have wings, so legs will have to do. I can just stick them in the oven, and have them ready to serve at "game time"! You watching the hockey game, Donna?

  14. I just finished eating the "Donna Wings" and they were delicious! I bought split wings (no wing tips) and used half the amounts because it was just me and my daughter. Thanks Donna.

  15. These sound delicious, but I would have to cut the sugar. I think these go quite well with the Funky Junk theme - the wings have a nice rusty patina!
