Our little spring break escape to Harrison Hot Springs... again.

Our very favourite destination for short escapes is to Harrison Hot Springs, BC Canada, and with spring break upon us, we just needed a change of scenery for a short spell. So we head out for one night.

First stop? The log cabin pub. I don't even know what it's called. But all I know is they have one of the very best burgers in the world. Diets are void when we're in Harrison cuz fries it is!

Our weather is still cool,  and the growing season hasn't started yet, so we huddled in the truck while we enjoyed the fantastic view with our awesome burgers.

After about the 80th picture, we gave up. We were both freezing. :) Lick away, dog!

The resort is known for it's high end hotel experience with 5 hot pools to choose from but they also have cottages out back if you desire to bring pets. So we decided to bring the dog for the first time.

Cute they were! But boy would us DIYers have a great time decorating these guys up!  They really needed some TLC the way we do things with our thrifted treasures.

We waited for night to fall then head to the hot pools. The grounds are lit up with white lights wound around the trees so it's really a wonderful experience sinking in the midst of the illuminated hot steam.

After our hot pool experience, we slept like babies. And my craving for a cabin on the lake came back 100 fold... oh how I loved the woodsy interiors and vaulted ceilings and cozy little fireplace...

I could totally picture myself cross legged in front of a lake on the front veranda, tapping away on my writing with my laptop, coffee by my side. Make that latte. Some dreams just never go away. :)

Have you ever watched the movie Miss Potter? If you have dreams, please take the time to rent it. It will change you allowing you to believe all things are possible if you work for them.

This is another Miss Potter moment for me. (watch the movie and you'll understand) This gorgeous little area was out back by the cottages... I attempted to sit there with my vanilla latte but didn't sit for long... brrrrrr....

And again I landed at The Back Porch. It's a must. There's something about this place that I can't put my finger on.  The owners know me now by first name. I've blogged about them a few times and if this place wasn't my dream home, I don't know what would be. With a hobby farm, junk store, workshop and this new / old home on the property, it's set up perfectly for the workshops I wish to host... in my favorite destination. Sigh...

I had a long chat with the owner this round. I always laughingly ask them when they're going to sell me the place. It's always the same answer... never. BUT... this time was a maybe... * blink *... what?! I need to get working! :)

There's just something about this place... I don't know...

Ok, back to reality...

Other than our short little getaway, we mowed the lawn for the first time and started digging around in the garden. And naturally I dreamt up 101 new projects to play with outdoors when it's time.

I also had a chance to refocus on my junk goals. I'm going to get back to the land of creating and focus on writing. The blogging break helped to remind me of where I really desire to focus on my efforts. So I'm going to be a good blogger and actually schedule this stuff in around my day job rather than try and squeeze it in. Cool huh?

I've just been spinning my wheels lately. I got too busy and just ended up chasing my own tail. So it's time to focus on opportunities that help me achieve my goals that also continue to deliver great stuff your way and say no to the rest. I'm on it!

The break was fun and needed, but it's good to be back! I have so many cool things I wish to do and can't wait!

I'm curious... do you have a peculiar dream that never goes away?

  2. Oh Donna, that sounds perfect, just a one night getaway at a cute little cottage... except I wouldn't bring my dog! I love my dog, but I need a 'vacation' from my dog. Looks like a beautiful place to visit - good luck owning it someday! You're pretty creative, who knows what you'll come up with someday!

  7. ahhh...what a great getaway! I am in love with those giant, chuncky rocks lining the pathway and surrounding the trees , filled with mulch. I think I might have to use that for my backyard!

  8. Off season getaways all so awesome! Not any crowds, peaceful serene vistas...no crowded antique/junk stores! Glad you got a break together.

  9. Its curious that the house you gravitate towards might be yours one day. I think that is def how things work when you are a visualizer. I think dreamer and visualizer are one in the same~a powerful tool many don't use. Loved that you brought the dog and got to stay in the cabin...I would have wanted to fix it up too and make it super cute.

  17. I love Miss Potter, and now I would like to watch it again! Getaways are so important, aren't they? A change of scenery does everybody good. I just mowed our lawn for the THIRD time today and we don't live in the south by any means. CRAZY!

  18. It is a very long time since I have visited Harrison Hot Springs (would have been in my childhood...I'm 63yrs. old now and have moved from B.C. to the UK).

I miss the beautiful province and especially have a dream to return to my childhood haunt of Bowen Island.

I am in love with your perfect picnic location and I hope your dream house one day will be yours too :)

  19. One of my fondest memories was going to Harrison Hot Springs while visiting friends in BC. We had to 4-wheel up to one of their favourite spot...and now mine too! The view was spectacular, up high on the mountains with the most beautiful lake...so serene. Thanks for recalling that memory for me. You know I will be heading for the photo albums tonight.

  21. Donna, this was a fun post to read! My husband and I escape to Harrison every February, but stay at The South Garden B&B... we too eat at the Old Settler Pub everytime, usually for burgers, but this time I had a curry rice bowl - it was amazing! :) ...but you know, I grew up in Agassiz, and all the times I have driven by The Back Porch, I never went to check it out - I will now for sure!! I had no idea! I blogged about our last stay in Harrison here: http://www.becauseithinkican.com/2012/01/23/aahh-relaxed/

  22. Hi Donna
LONG time lurker 1st time commenting. I thank you for all the wonderful information you share with us in cyber world. You are like that friend next door, an for that I am greatful.
I wanted to tell you My Dream...we inherited a 180 yr old 50 acre farm estate 5 years ago and we just finished the interior and exterior of the house. Many projects we did I found from your site, I tweaked things my way but you were driving force behind the end results. Now about My Dream..we have a wonderful barn that hubby and I want to turn half into a VRBO/B&B and use the other side for a wedding venue from summer to fall. And lastly use the barn twice a year for an antique barn sale. We are starting this dream this summer. Slow and steady but we will do it. I hope to blog about it on my blog when we begin. It will be like a journal of our progress. Wish I had done it when we gutted our house.
Excuse the long over drawn comment but it was so refreshing to see I am not the only one out there at my age still dreaming..you put a pep to my step girl friend.
    Cheers
    Shel
