Gee... you'd think if you had something for sale, that you'd be happy to sell it, yes?
My sweet blog friend BJ from Sweet Nothings sent me this magazine with one of my movie stars in it.
I just received the magazine so it's still extreme novelty to see my memory table in actual print!
BJ loved the table so much she went and made one herself!
Isn't it awesome?
My table had since gone to our local restaurant, the Vedder Mountain Grille where I am displaying some items for sale.
And then I got the email.
"Hey Donna, your table sold on Sunday! I'm happy and sad.
Thanks again for all your beautiful things!"
I smiled, but I also had a lump in my throat. I could never bring my movie star home again.
SOLD.
I also brought in my GROCERY sign. In which owner Laurie deemed she didn't want to see it gone EVER so she bought it herself!
SOLD.
And remember the mattress spring bb project?
The little bb with the #5 also sold there too.
Believe me when I say, I didn't have much on display at the restaurant. But it appears my handmade items are moving. And that is very encouraging!
So I'm gonna be a big girl and bring some more of my favs over. And with any luck, they will also sell.
I also promised to show you some decorating I'll be doing at the restaurant, so I'll work on a few photo shoots this time as we go along too.
One of my other dreams is to land writing assignments that love tutorials such as these projects offer. Because there's going to be alot more coming! So if you're hiring, sign me up! :)
Fear to succeed sure can get in the way. Here's to showing fraidy cats like myself how to chuck fear to the side and do what you love for a living already.
I mean, isn't it about time?!?

Yay Donna! I can't for the life of me understand why you would even think for moment that your things wouldn't sell. They are all fabulous and an inspiration to all of us. Your things are in magazines for goodness sakes... how does that even happen if isn't great stuff!?!

Good for you, Donna! I'm sure your things weren't there long before they were snapped up. Lucky buyers! It is always hard to sell some of your favorite creations, but also rewarding in many ways. I always thought you'd do well with a booth at an antique mall, along the lines of what MMS is doing. I'm sure your stuff would be snapped up in a heartbeat there, too!

Well this makes me think of MMM Marion when she creates the latest and greatest dining room set, and then she lets someone buy it! gah! I couldn't sell anything that took tons of work, if I really loved it. So you are selling your coolest stuff, and there is more cool things you haven't even thought of yet.

Congrats to you! It does sound like your items are a hit! We will soon be seeing FJI items for sale at Pottery Barn, if they are smart! I would have a hard time parting with those things though. I don't think that I could do it. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh I so understand. I am often torn about stuff I take to our booth at our antique mall. There have been a couple of times where something didn't sell in a couple of weeks so I brought it back home to keep. It's strange to feel happy and sad at the same time over something selling. At least you know that they went to a good home. (I would have loved that Grocery sign for myself but shipping costs would have been ridiculous unfortunately).

I tried to do it like you showed in your post (on Picassa) which worked but when I post the pics on my blog the name is not there on them. I have to go into Picnik to do it again. I tried the steps 'copy text' and 'paste text' but am not sure how that works. Please HELP!! I'm computer illiterate sometimes and am surprised I've learned so much in the past year since I started blogging. Thanks in advance! Hugs, Pamela
ReplyDeleteIt can be hard letting go of something that you put your heart into, even if you never intended on keeping it in the first place. I struggle with this problem when I make things for my craft shows. I have to just tell myself that I can't possibly keep everything that I make & it's just rewarding to hear people tell you that they love you're creations. And how exciting that you're being given the opportunity to do some decorating for a place that so many people will see! WOW! I see many junky doors opening up for you...

ReplyDeleteSo happy that your pieces are coveted by others and you are getting recognized for the wonderful work you do. It is always difficult to see pieces go, you get very attached to them while you create. I still get a heavy heart when certain things I have made are going to new homes. The big thing is there is always another project, I am sure your list is long....and we all want to see what you come up with !

Congrats on selling your table - I know it is sad when you sell something you truly love - but you have to remmeber somebody must have loved is just as much and now it has a wonderful home.

ReplyDeleteI have the hardest time selling the stuff a I made, each piece becomes so personal. Over the years it has become easier, but I still find my self wanting to pull the item back from the person buying it. It is nice that you have a place to display your pieces for all to see.

ReplyDeleteI have to laugh when you say you are surprised and then when you are a fraidy cat. You have more inner strength than most of us. Now, go cut two more round tops so you are ready to replace the sold table. Now, lets review: You cleaned out extra furniture; you started on teen boys room, but he hasn't decided on a theme yet; you set up your office downstairs; you had a garage sale; you set up all new SNS's; you created a tea shop over looking the garden; you fixed two closets; wrote tutorials on photography and making things; and have started on the garden. That's a lot accomplished in the last few months. Well done! Could you tell us what font(?) to use so we can make our own cow signs? I really need a "Babe" (my dad) and a "Madeline" (my mom.)

ReplyDeleteWhile reading this post it reminded me of the wisdom my son shared with me one day...I was also sad to see one of my crosses sell and my son quietly said; "you can't keep them all to yourself...your gift of designing crosses was meant to glorify Him not keep to yourself"
ReplyDeleteWow! Can our kids blow us away with their wisdom or what?
However, it is really hard to put hours of labor and love into a design and then see it go. To get through this I imagine my design blessing each home it lives in, just like your creations are blessing those who bought them.
I love your creations and know a piece of your heart is in everyone of them. That in itself is worth more than money could buy.
