The backyard garden gets junkified

I have a new favorite place to sit in the backyard.

Not too fancy nor fussy, and just the right amount of cute. And junk. :)

The flower box crate got planted and junkified in front of the character building. I chose a more vibrant red this year for the geraniums so they'd pop moreso from a distance.

The soil was in fairly good shape but needed a little lightening, so I mixed in some peat moss for good measure and threw in a bit of homespun compost. I'll also be using liquid fertilizer all summer to keep the blooms at their best.

And then the best part came. The junk jewelry. :)

Love this old white hoe. It is quite the relic! But made a neat contrast against the soil and flowers.

It became a bird sanctuary of sorts. An old birdhouse and a rusty old cow feeder teamed up creating a little bed and breakfast with a hot tub. ;)

With even a level down below. :)

It's still early in the season so once the blooms really get going, I'm sure the show will continue to improve.

The front yard is also currently being turned upside down. We are on a roll! Hopefully a reveal is in the near future there too. So while we're in the thick of it...

... at least I have a pretty place to sit and rest up. :)

  6. How is your grass so perfect and green? Why do you get to look at the mountains like that?!
I'm from Minnesota and it's supposed to be similar (I guess cold-wise) to Canada and we must be getting skunked...

  7. Alicia, it's all the rain we get. It's rarely sunny. There's a hefty price to pay for our amazing green. :) BTW... I never feed or fuss with the lawn. Just cut it. I use to feed and fuss but then I had to mow more! :P

  8. WoW I don't know anyone who can junk it up like you and I mean that as a compliment in the kindest way!

The mortar hoe looks great in the flower box, how clever.

I'm in awe of your lawn is it zoysia?

  9. Beautiful additions. Love all the greenery. Here in Arizona it is dry and barren and not much hope for rain soon. But, I can enjoy yours! Thanks 4 sharing.

  31. What a nice view on a day like today. It is Pouring rain here on the east coast and has rained for a week it seems like. I have been looking at your yard over and over. I scroll down, then I do it all over again. Is that your land behind the fence, or some kind of common space? It is really nice. I have a little shed that's stone on two sides with a barn door and a wood roof. It would be perfect to fix up, but my husband keeps all the yard stuff in there. Maybe some weekend when he's away I can clean it out and style it for pictures and then put all the stuff back. Well one thing the rain is good for is making rust. Ann

  41. I love it. I would have to sit in the chair and imagine a little hobbit living in the little house, which would call for an hour or so of daydreaming the story. I live in the country also and the views are just so restful. I love what you've done.

  45. I want your back yard. That is my kind of gardening and the scenery is heavenly. I can close my eyes and visualize myself sitting in your back yard, no don't pinch me I don't want to wake up yet. You must get a lot of rain where you are. We are having drought here in North Florida and my grass has suffered dearly as there is water restriction in effect. I do take some water out to my 5 pots of vegetables but flowers have been on the back burner for me this year. My poor log stump didn't get her little flowers this year. Hopefully next year.

that nice. It finally rained yesterday. You could see the grass sigh. We have an old vintage house jack like you have in your flowerbed. You certainly have a beautiful view.

  52. It's looking fabulous Donna! I love your little b&b! Here that would be a mosquito farm :) I'm always having to dump standing water. I do have bird baths that I have to put mosquito dunks in. They are so bad here. I get bit every day. But it doesn't stop me. I love gardening. Can't wait to see the front!
