Mixmaster snowdrops - a spring centrepiece

Spring has definitely sprung and our snowdrops are in full bloom!

And they are magnificent. Snowdrops remind me not only of spring, but of my mom.

She always use to bring them inside and create flower arrangements on the table. Using a variety of layered dishes, a clear glass frog topped the works, holding the delicate stems just so.

These cute little booms are so short lived, and since I'm indoors more than out, I thought I'd enjoy them inside for a spell, even if they don't last very long.

I dug out a vintage mixmaster from my junk archives (thanks Bec!) and set to work.

This will be a difficult tutorial, so please make sure you pay attention to every. single. detail.

1. Dig.

2. Plunk.

3. Add moss to cover soil.

I really did like the snowdrops strewn about like this, but once they got over the shock of the move, they stood right up indoors. They're pretty that way too!

I nearly didn't blog about this because I thought it was too simple. But I was reminded by another to show my simple anyway.

    Great ! beautiful flowers.. I'm afraid ours are still under the snow .

    Donna you are so funny! I wish we were neighbors. Love ALL your ideas. It's nice to see someone is enjoying the first bit of spring. 10" of snow fell here yesterday in the western burbs of Chicago.
    Maybe spring is headed this way. I'll tell you, it can't be soon enough.

    OH how beautiful! Spring? whats that? Like Karen we had snow yesterday and into the night.... something we've had precious little of this season. So today we will enjoy the 7" inches of snow and look forward to the temperatures being in the 50's with rain this weekend. As soon as I find the potting soil we are planting wheat for a bit of wheat grass... yep a bit of green in the house will be greatly appreciated right about now. In fact our middle son added a bit to his room yesterday by way of a bamboo plant. :)

    Oh you're so lucky, we are still covered in snow so none of my spring bulbs are showing their tips yet. But I did force hyacinth, crocus, forsythia and pussy willow indoors. And I love them.
    I have to say, I would never have thought of using a mixer for a container. It looks beautiful...perfect!

    Love this! My mom was an avid gardener and I have her old Mix Master mixer. I love snow drops as much as she did, so this MUST happen at my house. Probably not this year, but it will happen next spring. Thanks so much!

    I have ivy planted in a pot nestled in the bowl of my mother's mix master. It sits on my kitchen counter. A good use for something I don't use anymore. . .I blew out the pilot light on the stove when my last kid went off to college!

    I too have a mixer in my kitchen. I have a house plant sitting in the mixing bowl that came with the mixer. ( thrift store find) . The mixer does work but I like it the way it is.

    I LOVE this idea! I recently became owner of a couple of vintage toasters, and I was thinking of doing something similar. I just need to figure out what to put inside the slots to hold the flowers...hmmmm. Let me know if you have any ideas!
