This system is price efficient, easy to put together, and can be customized 101 different ways. So if you desire to get super organized, this is my vote hands down!
linen closet
Now let me show you just how easy this is to assemble. Trust me. Even if you don't know your way around tools, YOU can do this.

about the kit
It comes as an expandable kit so it's easy to get just what you need.
Whoops! Wrong kit! I hate returns. :)
All hardware and instructions are there. Some even come with their own little allen wrenches.
But do check to ensure they are there before you leave the store. Sometimes this stuff falls off.

Solid paintable pine, predrilled holes, precut to size. What's not to love?
Predrilled holes also allows for your system to be fully adjustable.
Gotta love the option to change your mind.
Gotta love the option to change your mind.
The shelves come in two different depths so you can choose your level of storage.
Unlike most like minded kits at big box stores, with this one you can get extension kits that make your shelving reach to the ceiling.
Triple cool!
helpful tools
I generally put the allen wrenches aside (if your kit comes with them) and grab more substantial tools.
Ratchets work and sound really cool but this next method is WAY easier.

A cordless drill with the right bit is definitely my preferred choice.
how to assemble
zzzzZZZZzzz
Done.
installing in your area
I chose a closet for this project.
The deeper shelf was the perfect fit.
Fair warning. As this product ages, it darkens. So if you love the blondish pine tone, I'd suggest to stain or paint it before installing. But I wanted it done 3 years ago, so up it went as is.
You CAN do this all yourself like I did, but if you had a 2nd pair of hands handy, it's easier.
The unit was built inside the room it was staying in. I attached legs on one side first, then flipped it over and did the other. The 2nd set of shelving was installed with this unit standing up.
Tip:
* leave enough height between the bottom shelf and floor for easy cleaning
shelf position
shelf position
left end
middle join if extending
If creating a side by side unit, ensure you select the right hole for the joining side.
Keep all screws loose until all shelves and all posts have been assembled.
Then tighten the works up.
Felt liners (not included) will protect your floors.
Bracing the back is important to stabilize the unit. The kit comes with it's own metal braces or you can create your own with wood planks like I did for my office if desired.
Predrilling holes makes the job abit easier but wasn't 100% necessary in this case.
And the finished shelving in place.
I left the top empty so I could pack it full of bulk pillows, etc.

An instant linen and games room closet was born!
The nice thing about this unit is it can be dismantled anytime you wish.
painting the unit
Here's a post on how I built the blog office Gorm shelving. Note the reclaimed lumber braces I attached instead of what came with the kit.
Now I need a unit for my craft area... yes, I'm most certainly out of control.

ReplyDeleteVery nice projects!!! A lot of people make it their New Year's resolution to get more organized...hopefully, this will give some the inspiration they've been looking for.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. These shelves have made a tremendous difference in my own home!
DeleteAnd I'm going to IKEA in 2 weekends...I'm checking out this for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe shelves look great, I love Ikea! My favorite ones are the ones in your dining room, I love the way you filled the entire wall with them, even over the windows. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Definitely need a couple of those. They look great natural or painted. Getting to Ikea is on my list.
ReplyDeleteThat really is fabulous! I'm sending the link to my hubby. I'll head it...hint hint! We sure could use some more shelves! You never have enough! Thanks for taking the time to show us the 'how to'!

Pretty handy sheving units. I love your dining room shelf.
ReplyDeleteI love this shelving too! We first bought ours about 13 years ago...It has moved with us from England to Arizona to Italy to New Mexico and now here to New Hampshire! It's gone from craft room to garage to craft room, etc. We've added a few more units to our collection along the way. I'm in the middle of taking one apart and rearranging my craft area right now. I think I'm going to move it around the corner in the basement to use it for Christmas and other storage and get something else for my craft area.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about using these in my pantry and new laundry room.....they look very sturdy and adaptable. Thanks for the great info !
ReplyDeleteWow, you really do like this shelving! If I only had an Ikea....
ReplyDeleteI need more storage in the basement...this looks like it will be perfect! I had asked my husband if he had any more of the industrial shelving, he said he just turned some down and couldn't remember from who...I better plan a day to Ikea! (as if I could ever say no to that store! lol) Thanks Donna, this post came at the perfect time.

ReplyDeleteOh how I love me some IKEA!!! I wish there was one closer to us... we have to drive an hour and 30 minutes to get to ours. We love to eat dinner there and get the meatballs and lingen berries! YUM!! They also have some great hand towels for the kitchen right now! LOVE!!! Anyways.. love what you've done with all those shelves!! I may need to get some for the boys' rooms! Hmmmm... IKEA trip?... I think so! Hugs!!!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE Ikea! I've never looked at these shelves twice, but seeing them in your home is really inspiring! Now I'm totally going to look at them and think about if I could use them somewhere.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know of similar shelving at another store? No IKEAs in our area.
ReplyDeleteOnly ONE in all if NY State!
