Dear Cindy,
Happy Birthday!
We are all missing you so very much, and not a day goes by where we don't either chuckle at something you've said, or wipe away a tear at the thought of us not being able to hear it again.
You would be so proud of your family. So very proud! Let me fill you in on what's been going on...
After you left us, mom in law Wendy stayed with the family until things got more settled. Brad had time off so he could be with the family and sort things out. And just have some time to miss you.
Many came to help. The neighbours came bearing hot meals, toys and clothes for the kids, even Brad received some gifts. Many friends went out of their way to host events to raise funds to help out. And so many incredible generous folks you didn't even know donated to your Think Pink For Cindy donation site!
But here's where it gets better. When you were in the hospital, you were angry you were sick because you had wanted to get to Hawaii. It was a dream of yours for many years, and... I'm so sorry that didn't happen for you.
But, on behalf of your memory and desire to go, the family went for a week, and stayed with Brad's mom and dad who were already there.
They did it! They went!
Many tears were shed, but it was invaluable family time. They were busy healing and loving on each other. Some days they barely got through, and others, they focused on the kids and the beautiful surrounding area God created for us to enjoy.
Kaelan took to the water like a fish. You could barely get him out to do much of anything else.
Lena was also crazy about the water! And sand and sunshine. She was such a good girl and napped when she was suppose to.
When Grandma held her in the gentle waves in the ocean, she even fell asleep!
With Mom and Dad knowing so many at their condo, everyone became the kid's caregivers. They welcomed your family just like they were their own, and played and enjoyed.
They really had such a fabulous time.
But then it was time to go home... and endure another difficult first.
Being without you at Christmas.
Oh, how we missed your Jib Jab funny stuff you use to post every season! Among so many other things.
Brad drove from a whole province away with the kids and pets. He was a real trooper. They were all so good on the road and got here safely.
Your headstone was decked out in a pretty garland for the season by Wendy and Brenda. Really beautiful.
Everyone, including the two dogs and the cat, stayed at Mom and Dad's and enjoyed loads of family time.
I went to two family Christmas dinners with Brad and the kids and you'd have been so proud. He is so very good with them! Here they had a couple of vintage bells and were singing Jingle Bells together.
Miss Lena was so beautiful in her satin dress.
Everyone safely returned home again, to this. Gorgeous! Lots and lots of gorgeous.
So as you spend your birthday in Heaven today, please know, we are taking good care of your family. They are doing really well, under the circumstances. We are so very proud of them all!
And I know you would be too.
Until next time...

What a beautiful post! I don't know Cindy's story, but I'm pretty sure it echos my sister's. Though my sister did get to go on her dream trip to Hawaii. During her remission. And her town rallied together to raise the funds for the family trip. A cherished family memory.
ReplyDeleteAnd I had no idea when I stopped by here today I would be brought to tears on this chilly Chicago morning ...

Thanks for Sharing with us. I'm thinking of you and her family today. It seems like the sting is especially hard on the first year's landmarks. It never goes away...but gets a little less painful each passing year. So precious of you to think of her today! ~Tammy
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful tribute Donna. My children had their first Christmas without their dad this year too. Although they are adults it was very painful for them. Time builds more distance and helps a little. I'm glad to see Cindy's lovely family is doing as well and they can be. Much love to them.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written, what an awesome family ~ lifting you all up in prayer, Shelly
ReplyDeleteI found this site days before she found out she had cancer...then there were only weeks. I never knew her but this family has a spot in my heart forever. Thank You for sharing your story. I know it has been very difficult for you... You know she was smiling down on you as you floated in the ocean...and always! Thank You...Twylia
