Crazy little quirky window, isn't it?
This is the stuff that makes me tick. Repurposing one thing and using it for another in a new way. You know my drill.
Well, life has been pretty busy here lately which I know you can relate to! Fun but crazy time of year.
While the season has made things a little tighter time wise, I've been reassessing my blog lately anyway.
a very 'me' window, more on Monday
My goal is to give you more of me, while having time to write ebooks. Or a published book.. any editorial book takers? A book period!
However in order to do that, I need to simplify moreso. Things that keep me busy: SNS weekend link parties (3 themes no less), advertising, reviews and giveaways, etc.
So I'll be making some changes in the New Year on how to give you more of what you initially come for.
To help guide my decisions, I ask you this:
Why do you visit here?
What do you come for?
What do you want to see?
What about off topic stuff? Life struggles I overcome? 'What I've done today?'
What about off topic stuff? Life struggles I overcome? 'What I've done today?'
And... thank-you!

For me I love your style and personality! So I love to see your posts that offer up unique ways to use rustic junk. That being said -- I also love your photo tips! And your personality in general. I think I will be back no matter what you post about! :)
ReplyDeleteI keep coming back because I love your style - I love how you take a piece of junk and turn it into something totally different. I love how I can see that project (your bed spring bulletin board for example) and want to try making my own. It keeps me coming back for more. My friend loved your crate stairs - and we want to try something similar on her stairs... Your blog provides a lot of inspiration and pictures of what I can sometimes see in my own head and can't figure out how to display/make/do it properly.
ReplyDeleteYour style is very different from mine, but I love all of the creative ideas you come up with. It inspires me to take an object I might not keep and make it "me." I love your story - I have your blog in my Google Reader and I love seeing you going after your dreams and sharing the things you learn with... me. :)
ReplyDeleteI come here...because I love your sassy style! Simple..and so creative. It helps me look at things/life with a fresh eye! (:
ReplyDeleteDonna,
ReplyDeleteI come here because you share yourself so openly, you have amazing ideas, you have such a definitive - yet always evolving style and for your humor. You do all of this with no arrogance and without ever making us feel like we are less and couldn't do it too.
You share your successes in a way that never seems like bragging but just cause to want to cheer for you.
I come here to share your journey, waiting for the day when I can buy your book, and whatever your next venture will be.
I love your style and inpsiration, but mostly I come here for you!
Best of luck on your new adventures,
Laura
P.S. - don't think I have ever gushed like that on a blog before!
You think outside the box! I love the opportunity to see your ideas, the link parties where I can link and see what everyone else is doing. Also your blogging advice has been very helpful.

i am with Mary... inspiration. Your writing is awesome too. But when i don't have lots of reading time i look at the photos....and good to go!
ReplyDelete1) Visual inspiration--in particular, what you create, as well as inspiration provided by participants of the weekly party you host.
ReplyDelete2) I enjoy your writer's voice, your pictures, stories and tutorials.
3) Continuing inspiration and you being you!

I like your writing. You have some good images, too, but I'm more of a word-fiend than a picture gal.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you I don't go to any blog for the giveaways. Content matters much much more.
Ok, our styles are a little different but I like rusty metal stuff too! Why I really come is to check out what you have to teach me, cuz you do that all the time. I would say I haven't gotten the most from your blog to apply to my blog. Period. So that is why I come. And you are nice and genuine and really in it. The other little part is that I was a single mom with sons and I can relate to that part of your life and it reminds me of that time in my life, which was valuable.
ReplyDeleteI keep coming hoping for more projects, for inspiration and for when you share your life.
ReplyDeleteI do think giveaways are a waste of time and energy as are link parties - Actually, whenever I follow a link in a link party I get underwhelmed. Sharing is fine, but browsing through thumbnails is boring.
Do focus your time on making things and writing books, I don't care if you slow down to one post per week or month, if when you do it it is amazing.
Whismy! For me I love the way things are put together, the ideas that are offered, there may be pieces used in different ways than I ever would have thought of them being used. So my word is whimsy! :) and Inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I never go to a blog on purpose. When I see one of your pictures I like I click on it to see if it includes any information. I had never even signed up for a blog until some of the contest that you and some of your contest sites, gave us extra entries if we signed up for the blogs...I don't blog, or tweet, facebook is it for me. I love seeing all of the pictures and ideas you share, and ordering from some of the sites, but as far as the blog, I never go looking for one.
ReplyDeleteMore and more ideas of how to repurpose stuff, junk, etc.
ReplyDeleteCon to the tent! Content! Your blog is chock full of it and your point of view has reached brand-status in my book :o) I learn something every time I stop here, mostly because you teach me how to look at things differently. It's like those optical illusion images that were popular about 20 years ago... I remember the first time someone helped me look at it the right way and "see it". It's like that almost every time I visit FJI
ReplyDeleteI stop by to read about your life stories, your decorating ideas and loved the series about blogging and how to get started, etc. You give all sorts of inspiration to all aspects of life...that's reason enough to keep on reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteI visit the party and to see what new things you come up with :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us.
Mary
You are a true source of empowerment to all of us who USED to sit back and think about hiring someone to do the things we wish we could do ourselves. Jump in! What's the worst that could happen? You might have to hire someone anyway to fix a boo-boo, but at least you gave it a try, more than likely exceeded your own expectations, gained confidence to try more projects, learned to look at things with a more creative and critical eye, and gained self-respect along the way. I love your style of writing, the humor you put into it, your overly generous spirit to share all that is YOU, showing us that a lot can be done with a little (the result usually being better and more satisfying than having unlimited funds at our disposal). I'm satisfied to continue with you on your journey -- wherever it takes you. I love your signs, every single project you do inspires me in some way, your tutorials, you never give up, your mind is always racing with more ideas than you can implement. It can be something as simple as today's picture where you ask "Crazy little quirky window, isn't it?" Yup, it is, but I love it. I'm with you all the way!
ReplyDeleteHi Donna! I enjoy visiting your blog often. I love your style and how you challenge your readers to think outside of the box when it comes to decorating. Like, yeah it's a tire, but it can also be used as a really cool planter for flowers! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI come because I love seeing what natural or junky item you've turned into something beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like to hear about your life and your day too...keeps you human instead of just this omnipresent fabulous blogger!
xo
I visit every day because you are down to earth 'real'. You are creative and share; great stuff (like your Tamara series) or your fireplace or you desk or your yard ... etc. Love the blog name. Love your hard hitting honest posts. You show your readers that you can/we can do 'it', just go for it, try. Your photos are an inspiration, your writing is clear, has humour, makes an enjoyable read. I do like your link parties. I don't enterer giveaways (just a personal preference). What I really enjoy is that your are a successful blogger from the Fraser Valley.
ReplyDeleteJoy
There are many sides to my personality and tastes. The rustic, outside the box, junker in me feels a kindship with you. I love your personality, which is very evident in your writing, and in the emails I've received from you. You're genuine, and that brings me back. I like variation in subject matter. I'm excited when I see one of your projects, but your insight and life experiences are interesting too.
ReplyDeleteFirst I think if you're doing your blog for yourself - then you write what you want no matter what anyone wants to see or read.
ReplyDeleteI come to see old things used in new ways - that's my favorite part of the blog. I follow you so I read all the posts.
I don't mind occasional life stories or struggles but I much prefer seeing new, fresh ideas.
I like how natural your blog flows, the fresh and creative ideas, and the energy in your writing style. I also like your blog tips (they have been very helpful!) and your photography.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I'll keep coming back!
I always visit your blog. Yours was the first one I discovered when I entered the blogging world only 8 mos ago. I like all the help you give to other bloggers and I've used your tips to improve my blog (I still can't figure out how to make a blog button for myself but whatever...)and I love your funky junk style (that sounds familiar...hmmm). I don't seem to come across all the gorgeous 18th century French wall sconces in my neighbors trash like some of the other bloggers do!. I've been working with hardware store finds and pallets and leftover metal objects for a long time. I love the creativity of it and I love working with my hands and don't mind getting really dirty. You're that kind of gal and I like it! Whatever you decide to do, I will still come visit because it will still be done with love and passion so it will be all good!
ReplyDeleteI love your style and you have given some nice tips on the camera stuff.
ReplyDeleteI come here because I get inspired. I like repurposing using what you have and a love of rustic crustie junk. the givaways are a waste of time for me not a big winner. but i do like some of the link parties because many will take your ideas and tweak them. also i really appreciate your tutorials, they are doable and down to earth. Like the rest I would totally buy your ebook. Also your photos are amazing in this respect you have inspired me to get a good camera [nikon d 5000] and I am presently taking a class.good luck and god bless
ReplyDeleteI love your blog for all of the creativity I find here. So many uses for things I might never have thought of myself. I also love the link party on Saturday, although I only browse the theme links and the ones related to the home. The crafts and food I can find somewhere else if I want to. I have been reading your blog for at least two years or more. It's one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI love all the new ideas... new to me at least. Since the wind storm knocked a lot of limbs down I'm going to go get one and put it in the window. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like to see the crafts and makeover projects. The party is what I initially came for, I started to follow and enjoy your photos of your home decoration and projects. The give-a-ways are nice, but they are very long posts.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower...you were so sweet to send me an email! I read the story of YOU and I was so in awe of your perseverance and determination! You really are amazing! So I am following to learn a few new handy tricks and to see what you are up to!! Writing a book...go for it!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Inspiration!, of course :o) whether (and mostly) decorating-wise, and yes, on other matters of life of course, which fortunately for us, you are always willing to share straight and honestly.
ReplyDeleteAnd while I love it all, I have to confess that what drives me nuts and brightens my days is seeing your project and unique ways to use that kind of things that others would normally throw away. Makes me want to go junk shopping here as well! It is difficult to find such things around here (Guatemala) but it makes it, in any case, the more fun :o)
Son why do I come? for inspiration. what do I visit? to admire your unique projects and surroundings. what do I want to see? well, more of the same! Surely, and with the bright mind of yours, we will keep to bring it, and come up with new things. Keep up the good work! :o)
I visit just to appreciate your style, and get inspiration for "decor". I like your blog tips; am thinking of doing my own blog when I move into a new house and fix it up.
ReplyDeleteI don't visit the SNS parties. Aren't they for other bloggers, or something? Don't care about the give aways, either. And thanks so much for introducing me to Pinterest! Love it.
Pam S
I love your funky junk style!! I've been a repurposing maniac for years, but just when I think I've seen it all...you've come up with something crazy and fun. I also think you have some awesome helpful hints, so I come to learn. I always enjoy the inspiration from all the creative party participants. Keep on doin' what your doin'.
ReplyDeleteI'm not your typical follower. I don't have my own blog and I'm nearly 70 years old. But I do love your style--how you take junk and make a beautiful home. I also appreciate that you live in a modest home, not a mansion. I used to come for the SNS but there are so many link parties now that most feature the same projects. I'm really not interested in the give-aways. I already have enough stuff. Look at your list of popular posts and you'll see what people like to see.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good idea to reassess each year. There is only one you and you have only 365 days each year. You need to do what works for you.
Barbara
I come to your blog for inspiration. You always have a great idea, which seems to sprout more great ideas. Your funky ways of using things, one normally wouldn't think of. I always come away enjoying what I've read here.
ReplyDeleteI come for your creative re-use and adaptations of the castoff, out-dated, old, vintage, intriguing... It's always inspiring to see how others transform the things they find.
ReplyDeleteI began following you on bloglovin after I saw the bedroom with the clouds and stars. I loved that it was accessible, doable and unique. I come to your site for ideas that are different and ideas where I can take away something from them and incorporate them into my own creative endeavors.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your photography, your self exploration, your inspiring ideas and your sense fun style!
ReplyDeleteJess
I actually visit your blog for two reasons. You are a true original and I love the creativity involved in that. I also enjoyed your Blog to Business series. I enjoy the process of sharing your business progress. I believe that is a true contribution that you have made. My preference is well thought out planned blog posts, and I believe yours has that. I do not follow blogs that post even when they have nothing to contribute that day. I would prefer they post less often and have more thoughtful content. Your site is great and your originality is refreshing. I love the idea of several posts per week verses daily, but whatever works for you!
ReplyDeleteDonna,
ReplyDeleteI love your humor. Your puns. Your funny looks at life. The fact that I (very nice) branch in a window sill is not only art - it's decor.
You make things simple...or a least, seem do-able. You instill a sense of confidence. "If you can do it, anyone can."
I like seeing before and afters - like your the pallet desk room with the funky wooden ironing board for height. And, the storage room with you can how "shop the house" from. Thanks for letting us see your goodies.
I like the Themed Parties. But, since they are on the weekends, when I have less time on the PC, I miss a LOT of them. (I don't look at the others that much - just the themed.)
Even though I enjoy the Funky style, I do still like the stories you tell. Vacations with your son. Tribute to your mom. The hidden patch on the quilt.
I would still read if your posts were shorter or had less pics. Or, if you kept the same length and pics but posted less frequently.
I do like the photo tips, too. Before and after for those help.
Wow. Okay, well that's enough of MY opinion. I'll let someone else have the faux-snow flour covered funky floor now.
Oh, and blogger tips, too. Like how to NOT no-reply, Linky Party best practices, and the Blog to Biz.
ReplyDeleteLove your junk! I am always drawn to your blog mostly to see what fun thing you have come up with! I live in an old midwest farmhouse and junk just fits my style. Your style is one of kind in blogland and really stands out like a sore thumb, (in a very good way).
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't even look at your themed links.
Why I come here? Ideas. I love decorating, on the cheap. Your ideas are the classiest/coolest I've seen for re-purposing things I mostly already have. What do I want more of? Tutorials. I love doing it myself, please give me more ideas and tutorials. Do I love your editorials about your life? Yes, but I got hooked on the cool, unique, classy, shabby chic ways to reuse things we all already have. LOVE!
ReplyDeletesoupseeds.blogspot.com
I come for your unique ideas, I love how you look at objects differently than most people (those barn-doors-shutters-curtain things are awesome!).
ReplyDeleteI love your photography tips. I could use some major help in that area!
I also love hearing (reading) a bit of your life, helps us to remember there's a hardworking person behind this blog.
The linky parties are awesome for inspiration and one day soon I hope to add something to one!
I realize you have to do the promotions to make money, so I just "live with it." ;)
Why I visit your blog:
ReplyDelete1. Inspiration - your life story, DIY & doability, motivates me to get off my a**
2. Chuckles - you are hilarious! a merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance. We laugh, we look younger! Prov. 15:13
3. Ideas - you come up with the most original, cool, trendy things and you SHARE them with us! And then you showcase other peoples cool ideas all in one spot! You just spread the love all over the blogosphere with SNS!
4. Loveliness - whatever is lovely, think on these things. Phil. 4:8 The Bible is basically telling us to check out Funky Junk Interiors!
But I am glad to see that you are re-evaluating and reassessing what's important and trimming the fat. Focus on what matters, on what is really important. Never stop doing what you love and what you were created for!
Donna,
ReplyDeleteThere are some blogs in my Google Reader that I just scroll thought to look a the pictures to decide if I want to use an idea. There are some blogs that I actually jump to when I see them on the list because they're my favorites. And some of those I actually read. You blog is one of those, You make me smile and giggle and cry and sigh. I love reading about your adventures with your son, as a single mom. I really enjoyed your camping posts. I love seeing what kind of junk you find to repurpose. There's plenty of eye candy there. I've even used some of your ideas. I love your inspirational posts about God, and our purpose. And your posts about how to have a successful blog were good too. I'm sure some people are excited about give aways. They don't float my boat so much. But, I guess they are the bait that gets more readers. I am also happy to read about your new jobs. IE Folk magazine. Keep up the good work
-Paulette

I visit to see How you doing and What you are doing. Simple as that. I like it when you rearrange things but I am just as happy reading about your camping trips. I do like it when you invent things. I probably won't make one, but I'll talk about it until I'm "rusty" in the face. Many bloggers start out really big, with inventing projects and then fade off to little things that they are making to sell. You have substance. I would read about a trip you would take to buy coffee, or groceries. I don't really care about the SNS, I read some of them, but those people often join twenty link parties a week. I can find them other places. I don't care about giveaways, unless it is your personal junk. I view your blog as more inspirational, and spiritual with a little instruction thrown in. You probably didn't want to hear that part. With much love, Ann
ReplyDeleteI come here for a smile and laugh and a giggle. For inspiration, for instruction and encouragement. (no pressure) Your blog is fun and easy to read, full of lovely photos. You inspire your readers to get things done, you light a fire you offer guidance. An occasional tear is shed, sometimes through empathy, sometimes from laughing so hard. You push us beyond the normal, you tell us it's okay to color outside of the lines and if others don't like it, it's okay...they will get over it. You model independence and spunk. And honestly I can't think of another place I'd rather be on a daily bases. I've enjoyed watching your blog grow and I pray that you want to continue on this journey for a long time. I know it is time consuming and I know you would never admit it, there is a just a wee bit of stress, but that comes with anything you commit to do on a regular basis. Blogging is hard work and it's a joy too.
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying for you in this time of reflection.
I learn many things when I visit here, I love DIY, I love your stairway made out of soda crates and such, you are so off the beaten path. I am drawn to that very thing. You are teaching me to think outside the box and blog better and let my creativity flow and not be worried if it isn't a hit...You promote being yourself and doing what comes natural to be successful.....all greatly appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI come here for your creativeness (is that a word?) and your decorating skills. I come to see what you are up to and for the beautiful
ReplyDeletepictures you take. I come to get a good laugh or just giggle at the things you do. You have a very interesting blog and you relate to everyone. You my dear are just a very nice, sweet young woman with an extremely creative mind. I thank you for letting me visit even though I don't have a blog.
I started reading your Blog when I saw what you did to the outdoor shed and I LOVED it! You look at, in plain English junk, and you turn it into something I want inside and outside my house. Your house doesn't seem like a magazine house where you are afraid to sit or touch something. Please keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI love every thing My mind boggles I adore your style and personality! And yes I want more of the above It give me hope that I am not alone.
ReplyDeleteIve had a pretty rotten year broke my wrist in July family emergency last month had to fly to the UK it's still not over Not feeling christmas at all but I have to say You Inspirer me got the christmas creativety chomping at the bit.
Have a good one Ann
I always look forward to the Funky Junk name appearing on my email.....we apparently like the same junky pieces and I like to see what you have created with them.....the thing is that what you make is really "do-able" -- I can do it without having to be super creative myself. I like having the time to be creative myself, but spending a lot of time as a hospital chaplain, I don't always have the energy. Your blog is creative eye candy, inspires me, and nourishes my creative soul. Thanks so much for all you give to so many of us.
ReplyDeleteYour creativity inspires me to create more. I repurpose nearly everything I get my hands on or run across. In process of painting peacock on guts from an old Coke sign. The piece from the inside where the blinky lights flashed. Has triangle points through out it . Will post you a picture when done.
ReplyDeletewhy do i come here? you inspire me to try things i have never done before..your photos are superb...i have "captured" some in my library, only because i love them. i am not a spring chicken either, but i come back here to see what you are doing or what inspires you. you have a wonderful sense of who you are and what makes you tick....you love junk....you turn it into something useful and simply beautiful....i, too, love to see your name pop up in my email box... do i love seeing your posts? you bet !!
ReplyDeleteHi, Donna. I subscribe to your blog in Google Reader. I have for some time now. I come because of all of your innovative ideas-turning junk into treasure. I'm glad you asked for our thoughts. The blog has seemed more geared to motivational pep talks lately(gosh knows we all need them), but that was/is not why I visit your blog. I miss more content. I don't care about giveaways and link parties. In fact, I skip these posts. I love your photos showcasing what you've done; now those are truly inspiring and I venture to say, will go a long way towards your book. Have you thought of separate blogs for the photo tips, inspirational/motivational topics? In any event, I love and look forward to seeing what you create. That's why I come. Best of luck. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDonna, I come to FJI to see what you have created, what others have come up with for SNS, ideas I might can adapt at my place or in my life, and news about you. Don't sell yourself short, your trials and struggles and HOW you deal with them is inspiring too.
ReplyDeleteIn short, I. LOVE. IT. ALL.
Susan
I also come to see what great items you have "re-created" into a beautiful new decorating idea. I love your style, pictures, humor and I appreciate the time spent to create.
ReplyDeleteI just love EVERYTHING about your blog!
I love your ideas and style. It's different and interesting. I like SNS and the fact that it's themed and broken into categories. I also have to say that there are several blogs out there who have thousands of followers and exciting things happening for them but their blog seems to be all about them and promoting themselves. When you share what's going on with you, you do it in a way that motivates and challenges readers like "if I can do it, so can you" kind of way. That down to earth attitude makes your blog special. Having said all this, you need to make changes to your blog that work for you and fit what you like. I think all of your readers will keep reading no matter what you do.
ReplyDeleteI come to this site because I feel I know you and want to keep up with whatever you have going on. The fact that I do feel I know you means you are connecting with your readers. I believe that is because you have found a good balance in your content - inspiration, instruction, visuals and sharing.
ReplyDeleteI come here because you inspire me
ReplyDeleteI come here because you challenge me
I come here because you get me
I come here because you teach me
I come here for your parties
I come here for your opinion
I come here for your talent
I come here for you, because you share your heart and I love your heart.
I come because I feel a kindred spirit with you. Things I had stored in boxes from growing up on a farm are now used as decor in my home, thanks to your guidance. You lead me to places I dared not go before with your blog and it's awesome.I value your leadership into an era of decorating with the old to become new decor. And so much more...
ReplyDeleteI come here because you are Canadian and so am I. I like to see how and where you find things in B.C. because I also grew up on a farm and all your things can be found at my parents' farm. It's fun to read about how you turn ordinary things into something extraordinary.
ReplyDelete1. Love your unique sense of style.
ReplyDelete2. Your photos are beautiful.
3. Your tutorials are easy to follow.
4. Love your writing style. I read every word you print. On many other blogs I will skim over the writing. That is not the case on FJI.
Well I am one of your readers that enjoys a little bit of everything Donna. I love what you do with your junk then I am also drawn to posts about your life plus your a fellow Canuk and Canadian girls kick butt!
ReplyDeleteDonna - first and foremost - its for your inspiration and your junking attitude. I do like the weekend parties - for both inspiration and I'll be honest - to drive traffic to my blog...but I visit plenty of the other ideas too - but only in the junking category - I never look at the craft and cooking categories. Your plate is very full - I don't know how you do what you do now...you must never sleep! so I can appreciate your assessment - thanks for asking for input
ReplyDeleteI love your quirky sense of style that encourages me to get out of my comfort zone for decorating. I love your can-do attitude. Love that you don't think you need a lot of money to have a beautiful home. I do love your linky parties--honestly, I think yours and MMS's get hit more than almost any others. BUT...if you were to scale back and just do a themed link-up every week, I think that would be grand, and maybe make less work for you.
ReplyDeleteJust discovered you last week. I enjoy your decorating style and tips on how to have style on a small budget
ReplyDeleteI love your rusty stuff...creativity...honesty...I feel like I know you, although we live in different countries...I am comfortable reading your post...there is no profanity or off color junk....There is a lot to be said for a classy post! I love the parties...I used to connect with them more...now I just read them and get ideas....thanks for all of your hard work...good posts are work! Lyndaoflakeland.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love how findingsecrettreasures put it and agree wholeheartedly. I don't care about reviews or giveaways. I love the Link party but simplifying that would be ok if it gives you the space you need so that the uniqueness of your approach, voice and creativity can be shared on the blog and ... I'm gonna love seeing that channeled into a book and wish you all the best with simplifying so you can do that!
ReplyDeleteI love to see your creative projects and learn from your experiences in blogging. I like that you share off topic stuff on your blog, because to me that shows a real side of you. Even though I'm a crafty -junker, I like the themed link up parties myself.
ReplyDeleteMostly, I like you, because I feel like me have a lot in common and share a similar style! Not everyone "gets" my junk style, but I feel right at home on your blog!
Janice
I love everything that you do and all that you write about. I do look at the SNS parties but, if that needs to be eliminated, then so be it.
ReplyDeleteKaren
I subscribe to your blog by e-mail so I don't miss a single post. The post that hooked me was the one of your stenciled staircase {I'd love to know how you made the stencils} and I keep coming back for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDonna, I visit you for your amazing ideas, for your blogging hints and tips and for your linky party. I rarely participate in giveaways--don't like to jump through the hoops and don't look at the reviews very often.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your repurposing posts. Such neat ideas that I would never think of. I also like the real life stories.....hearing about your son and your dog and your wrapping those fire engines.
ReplyDeletePlease keep the blog as is, that is why I visit...I love everything...the writing, the pictures, the projects.Maybe post less often if that would help. A simpler SNS would be fine, it's a little overwhelming right now. Miss Mustard Seeds link party is smaller but I enjoy that very much. I really don't know how you do all you do, so listen to your gut and do what's right for you and your son.
ReplyDeleteI come here for YOU-what is happening in your life, what's caught your interest, what cool thing you have re-thunk!! My opinion is that you should cut back on what doesn't make you happy or fulfilled and we will enjoy all the rest that does! I love hearing about your other job, your vacations, your son, how you repurpose things (and not all in that order necessarily).
ReplyDeleteI love your creative posts and I always come for SNS! So many great ideas, and it's nice to be able to link up for just about anything creative...and it seems you have the best of the creative girls linking here! :) I don't care for reviews much, unless it happens to be something I'm really interested, and that's usually a crafting project or tool that could help me out.
ReplyDeleteI like your thoughts on blogging and business.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Your blog seems accessible to me. I will never have a big fancy house and if I did, I don't think I would really feel at home. I love how you take an object like one that I have had hanging around my house for years, and use it in a way that I have never thought of. You are a teacher and care about others. Like my teacher/coach husband says "If you show kids that you care about them, they will run through a wall for you." I know you care, now show me that wall.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much I enjoy about coming here. I might not always comment but I'm always learning something new.
ReplyDeleteI do understand how overwhelming SNS must be for you. And if you need to cut back on something then I think you should. Follow your dreams, do what you think you should and we will all still be here. You are an inspiration and a teacher. And one of the nicest and most genuine bloggers out there!
Inspiration.....of all types!
ReplyDeleteI visit b/c you make me smile! You make cool unexpected things like the wheelbarrow coffee table that made me bust out laughing at 11pm at night, your fun creations & awesome photo tips! Those are just a few reasons. Whatever you go with works for me :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog inspires me, plain and simple! Your openness is an inspiration. The giveaways and link up party is nice but not a necessity!
ReplyDeleteI love your creative spirit and wonderful ideas and the fact that yes, you are human. You have some not so great days and yet you still keep plugging on. I love seeing the world through different eyes but also love to find someone that is a lot like me! I appreciate your honesty and I will keep stopping by as long as you keep posting!
ReplyDeleteI love the projects you do and really like how you present your projects in a clear and artistic way to us readers. I love the tips and links to other projects that you provide. I think your history is amazing and I have directed several others to your site for inspiration. I DO NOT like giveaways and reviews that are done for sponsors. I like knowing what products you used in a specific project, but don't need a review...just a link to where it is available if necessary. Thank you for so generously sharing your time with us!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog for your unique style. I'm happy to see someone love and repurpose junk. I'm not a huge fan of links parties, as I don't like all the time it takes to visit each link then go back to the link etc. not to be mean, but I don't really care to look at everyone else's projects. That being said, I do like being introduced to new blogs that you personally enjoy. I love hearing about how you've overcome struggles, because it makes you real and human and maybe a little bit like me. I also am not a huge fan of blogs that promote products or review products that they are paid for. I guess I like commercial free things. Of course, that doesn't include things you are personally involved with, like magazines and ebooks. Ok, have I told you enough about what I like? In short I like YOU!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your blog. You can take something simple and turn it into something awesome. You've taught me about blogging, photography, shared yourself and your creative ideas. And guess what I ramble. LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I simply come here because I like you, for you! I know you are genuine, and you keep it real. Not to mention I think your funny too. Oh and one last thing, you are darn creative and I have learned a thing or two from you. Your style and mine are very different, however, I truly never would have looked twice at wood and pallets if not for you. And I have to say, I have had a ball putting my own twist one them, however totally from your inspiration. So really Donna, you don't need to change a darn thing you are doing in my ever so humble opinion. Have a great weekend:)
ReplyDeleteI am reaccessing too! I come to this site because of your , I feel like you are a friend. I really don't care much about link parties. I think the majority of people are all busy posting their stuff and hardly looking at anyones stuff especially since we have pinterest. The majority of my traffic comes from there now. Personally it's kinda sad for us when you guys get big because we see so very little of you after that. I have only been following blogging for 3 years and I find myself saying I want it to go back to the good old days! It has just moved so quickly! I wonder if Pinterest will be the death of blogging soon.
ReplyDeleteI come here because you are "real". I love your funky style. I may not use it all but it's all inspirational and that's what I think you want it to be. You want us to be inspired and creative. I think your weekly themed link is your signature. I love seeing ideas you've inspired others to do. Your other two links are covered in so many other link parties. That would be a place you could filter out and refine your blogging so you can work on your "book".
ReplyDeleteBesides your creative repurposing style tips, I enjoy your photo and blog technique tips. But, the very best thing about your blog is "you". Stick with it girlfriend. Cindy Jones
For inspiration. Because you are interesting. Because I can relate to you. Because everything I have seen seems attainable (or makes me believe it is attainable). Because through your story I have learned to believe in myself.......... "Because because because because. Because of the wonderful things SHE does!" Mostly because it feels like you are talking with me, not to me, not down to me...your blog is like a conversation with a friend.
ReplyDeleteI come here because everytime I see one of your projects, I think..."ooohhh...I LOVE that!" I wish I had your gift of looking at a piece of "junk" and seeing the treasure it could become! Also...I love that you tackle it on your own! Funky Junk is rustic and elegant all tied up in one. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI come for inspiration, encouragement and support!
ReplyDeleteI love your projects and your home decorating ideas. I also love when you talk of your struggles and how you are overcoming them!
And I definitely need your support for sure!!
Hugs
SueAnn
I'm not sure how I stumbled upon your blog but it immediately went in my reader. I like the inspiration... I try to be "green" and re-using "junk" in such creative ways really appeals to me, although I'm nowhere near as creative as you are!
ReplyDeleteAlso: my family lives in Chilliwack, and I'm also a BC girl, but living on the other side of the world. Your outdoor shots remind me of home, and from your blog I have gotten a few interesting ideas of things to do when I'm there visiting!
For me it is definitely a combination of your projects, your personality, and your tips. I love that you are open (showing us your messy room). I like that you are doing things that I did 20 years ago when it was more uncommon for a woman to pick up a saw and create with it. As a single mother I was crafting birdhouses out of old fence planks.I may not always leave a comment, but I am reading.
ReplyDeleteLaura
I came to your page because of your rusty ole wheelbarrow out back. Things like that...I find your page inpiring. Your linky party is one of the best. I am not just saying that...that STATS prove it time after time. When I post on your party, my numbers go up and the traffic source is you. I never post on the special theme links, only the regular weekly one. Not that I don't find those catagories interesting to peek through too! Don't go away!!! We all would be sad. :(
ReplyDeleteI come to you because of your CAN DO spirit! Your Spirit! But also because we are kindred spirits and you keep my spirit ignited with your creativity. You just keep on rocking your junk girl! You are making the creative world a happier place.

Because you are one of the most creative people I know. It gives me pleasure to look at your creations...and many ideas for my own home. You have good advice. And I like the off topics too - a little look into the window of another person's life.
ReplyDeleteI love everything you do. You are so creative with junk. I love your style, your advice and all of your creations. You make me smile everyday with your posts. Keep up the good work!!!
ReplyDelete1. Love your unique sense of style.
ReplyDelete2. Your photos are beautiful.
3. Love your tips and tutorials.
4. Love your writing style. I read every word you print. On many other blogs I will skim over the writing. That is not the case on FJI.
5. Love to check out inspiration from the link parties. I would really miss the links if you stopped them. Plus the majority of my traffic comes from FJI.
6. You inspire me to try new things.
7. In summary, I guess you could say I love FJI!
I love your perspective on everything, your thoughts, creations, life, photos. I too read every word, I don't always leave a comment, I will try to do a better job of that! You can change whatever you like, I will be here hanging on your every word. And if you write a book, I'll buy it. I like you and your style, so I know I'll be happy with any changes you make.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Your blog and one other are the only two I regularly read. I read them both for the original ideas described. Not interested in parties or giveaways - they just clutter up the good stuff! One suggestion for all blogs is what one of my readers suggested: Have a tab at the top with an index of all posts (linked to the post), so I don't have to scroll through so much and spend time looking for something. (see my index at buildinggreenbc.com)
ReplyDeleteI have just been impressed with the stuff you come up with that I really haven't seen on other blogs, granted I have a lot of interests so I don't just look at home dec blogs but yours it one of a very few that keeps me wanting to come back. Good work! And good luck with all your endeavors this coming year!
ReplyDeleteHi Donna! Your blog first intrigued me by way of photography, the gorgeous scenery of your neck of the woods, and your ability to see, do, & conquer crafts, projects, & the biggest DIY- life. As I begin to get to know you, a kindred relationship between the two of us, strangers in the natural but friends in the blogging world, came about. Your devotion to and love of your son is most impressive. My son (my only child) moved to Canada two years ago to attend university and for some reason, I feel a connection when I read your blog. I love when you post camping trips and family time photos- I get a better picture of the land& your country to the North. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBecause of you, I have had a junkilicious last few days. I found a pre 1940 angel food cake pan inside my Bundt cake pan. I know it isn't my mother's but don't know where it came from. The Junk Fairy? I went out to a stone shed where we keep the outdoor stuff and found a hook that I think is a hay baler, two rusty things that look like stirrups, and a leather trimmed thing that is part of a horse's harness. Today at a garage sale I found my Very First Truly Vintage Yard stick, an adjustable rusty wrench with a wooden handle, and an $8 tripod. Now I'm in business! I washed off the hay baler and left it near the sink. My husband said he uses it sometime and took it back. What could a stockbroker possibly do with a hay baler? Oh, last Saturday my husband bought me a dark green minnow bucket for my "big" Christmas present. My life was not so interesting before you were in it.
ReplyDeleteDonna, I connect with your unique style and humble realness. I like that you do "you". Your personality shines through your writing which is creative, humorous, heartfelt and real.
ReplyDeleteI also embrace the quality of your photos, each of which is a form of art in itself.
I look forward to opening your posts because I can relate to your passions. When you posted about your neighbor chucking all those things into their dumpster/container, I was right there with you, thinking I'd be jumping in and doing that myself.
I love a Christmas tree decorated with junk. I wish I had the picture of the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree I pulled out of the ground when I lived in Maui. It stood a mere 24" tall and tipped over at the top like the one you did last year, but I loved it all the same.
Consider cutting the number of your posts in half. I don't understand why people think they need to blog every day. It's so much work for you and it's hard on the other end to read thru everyone's blogs when you're the reader.
I'm cutting back half the blogs I'm subscribed to because it's beginning to take over. Just do what works for YOU!
I think it's safe to say we all connect to your blog simply because who you are. Just keep being yourself and you'll have great success.
a hui hou - Shelly
I come here to see what you are up to, whether it's junk you've done something with, or a story about camping with your son. Your writing style is funny, easy to read and down-to-earth. I like the parties, searching through the photos to find something interesting to go and look at (how did we ever do it without the photos?) and I don't really like the giveaways, but I do understand that it helps pay the bills.
ReplyDeleteYou come across as a nice friendly person, someone I'd love to have as a friend to share a coffee and some laughs with!
I don't know what happened, I guess I accidentally erased part of my post earlier. I had put that I come here to see what you are up to and get inspired. I love your style and your personality!
ReplyDeleteJust keep doing what you're doing...everything. The awesome DIY projects, the info sharing, the heart issues. I keep telling myself to be careful not to stray and write on topics just for sensationalism which I've found some bloggers start to do as they go along. Glad you don't either.
ReplyDeleteWhile our styles are different I still enjoy your fresh perspective but what I like best about your blog is you , you are real and honest and giving. You put yourself out there and in doing so I see that I am not alone.
ReplyDeleteI come for the total package- your style (decorating and writing), your personality, your life (stories), your photos, your blogging tips, your courage to try new things--all of it together. I guess I come because I happen to think YOU are awesome and your blog is simply a reflection of you.
ReplyDeleteI don't come for linky parties, giveaways, promotions, or any of the typical things that attract large groups of bloggers.
Oh my gosh... whenever I'm blue, I'm coming to these comments for a good read! You sure know how to make a blogger feel blogworthy! Thank-you!
ReplyDeleteAnd #108 Nutbird... you make me LAUGH!
Donna
Your honesty in word & deed!
ReplyDeleteYour ability to take parts of your life & make it universal & to take parts of the universes casts offs and make it shine in your home....inspiration to create in our own homes!
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI've been following you for 2 or 3 months now and I don't go a day without checking in on your blog. I am also Canadian, from Ontario, and also a single mom with many of the same issues you have been dealing with lately, loss of my mother, house that constantly needs improvement and caring for my sons. You inspire me with all your stories. If you can do it then so can I. I love your photography, your style, your quirky ideas and all your tutorials. I love how you share yourself so openly. Keep up the great work and continue to work on your dreams of writing a book.
A friend from Ontario,
Chantal
Ditto to everyone who said, "inspirtation".
ReplyDeleteDitto to everyone who said, "your self".
Ditto to everyone who said, "your how-to's".
And contrary to some, I like the parties. Not that I post anything of my own, but because I like seeing what others are doing also. Don't need the added incentive of giveaways, but if it helps your bottom line, ok. Thanks for all your effort and time!
I love to see what new, creative things you've found & re-STYLED! I find inspiration for things around my own home/garden, plus I want to improve my blog & figure out how to turn it into a biz;-) Keep it ALL coming.
ReplyDeleteI come here for inspiration. I feel like you're a kindred spirit of sorts for me - sassy, creative, and independent. My husband and I recently bought our first house and I come here for ideas for my own home. Although we don't have the exact same style, I get to see creative ways of decorating that I wouldn't have seen on my own. I guess I wouldn't change anything here, Ms. Funky Junk, except maybe more tutorials if you're willing to share.
ReplyDeleteI receive your blog via email. Love all things galvanized. I follow for the photographs and styling. I'm always rearranging old farm junk I've collected. Great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGrеat ρost. I wаs chесking сonstantly
