Quirky decorating

The Nester is having a series on 31 days to a Better Dressed Nest. Today's installment was about surprises in each room. In her words, "Call it whimsy, fun, quirky, unexpected, ok even dorky."

I nearly snorted out my 'abit on the sour side' home grown grapes I force down on occasion because I don't want to be wasteful. Am I the queen of quirk? I'll let you decide.

Just 'stuff.'

I know. Allow me to explain this one.  When the kitchen cupboards were removed, an above header also came down. Not wanting to patch the ceiling, friend Dan and I created this plan to cover up the ceiling damage. Made out of MDF, black flat paint and plugs, it resembles metal panels.

Maybe a capital Q on this one...

I put this one in so you could view my lovely lighting solution. Honestly, I just forgot about them. But others that visit thankfully remind me. I think it has a homegrown funk as is myself..

The wall treatment in my son's room. If he EVER cleans his room, I may even feature it one day.

My headboard. Bed isn't made today so this is the best I can do. You can view it if you scroll under The Bedroom widget on the sidebar.

A wall hanging in my laundry room.

It's just a biiiit bigger than the first pic.

I have a Pig of the Month trophy on display. I won it from friends Dan and Gord when I got my iPhone. Whomever buys something the fancy schmancyest, gets the trophy. I'm VERY proud to be a PIG!

And then there's my front entry coat hook gate thang...

And the woodshed out back.

Kitchen island light. For now. One must do what they must to have light.

Let's take a little breather from decorating for a moment, and just get to life in general. Here's my washline that is tangled beyond repair. At this point, those whites are gonna get REALLY white cuz they're there to stay. The washline is 2 stories high and my only 2 ladders are being used to hold very LONG floor moulding off the ground in my garage. Nuff said. I'm done here. Meet my newest wind thingies people hang outdoors to see if it's windy.

This is a good quirk. I finally figured out a way to not keep losing the clothespins off the patio ledge. (that gets old real quick)  Go ahead wind, take it for all ya got! You may have my whites, but you ain't gettin' the pins!

My backyard boneyard wood storage has a BIG honkin' piece of metal clad siding in it's path. Yeah...

Just a quick moment of normalicy. Thanks for your understanding.

This little sign above my stove is indeed a quirky thing cuz you really don't want my hamburgers. I should add a "call 911 for emerg' sign in there somewhere. Oops... my decorating is showing again. Whatever.

Happy quirk! The pool that burnt the lawn? It's the perfect dirt spot for the trampoline now. Typical quirk... animal with mouth open during photo op.

This is how we eat. Others may raise their eyebrows, but pets are peoples too. (I'll admit, cat is in my chair, for if you snooze, you lose around these parts)

And lastly...this is our automatic dustpan. No batteries required. Just dogfood.

Got some quirks to share from your end of town?

  1. Donna, Great post on this mind-numbing Sunday.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who didn’t make my bed today. LOL.
I got ta tell ya that I thought it was strange that there are only two of us in this house and no mater what every pair of shoes we own is always under the bench in the mud room.
I can’t say that ours are so nicely lined up like yours.
I have to go now; I need to go line up a dozen pairs of shoes. LOL

  3. Becca, when the camera comes out, you have NO idea what's behind it. Those shoes? It would take me an hour to fiddle for a photo op in there right about now. You are forgiven. Move forth and create instead I say.

Nester, thanks for the visit! Loving your series! BTW, I want to be a PIG forever. But I have a bad feeling my friend is on the verge of a big spenderola to gain it back... I'm very actively discouraging it every verbal chance I get.

  6. I love the headboard sign, love the shed, love the step ladder on the island. I will admit, some of it's a little too quirky for my taste, but I really can appreciate it. Especially your creative solutions to make things work for you. I'm sure there are things all over my house that people scratch their heads at, but that's what makes my house mine and your house yours. Thanks for sharing all of your lovely quirks with us!

  8. I am loving your style more every week. I am particularly inspired by the more rustic bits. Also the fact that your cat and dog are so much a part of your relaxed way of living. Having 5 cats and 3 dogs I always have to make room for our furry family members.

  12. Hi Melanie, I get asked this alot! LOL

The cow mural was hand painted onto a sheet of plywood by a friend. She used a cow calendar I had as reference.

Here is where the inspiratin pic came from.

  13. Spent the morning preparing an old window to hang up in a funky place that my husband hates....and it doesn't fit. So sad.
Can't sleep tonight= web browsing and finding your cool and funky junkblog.
    Just what I needed! Thanks!
