A 2012 Funky Junk Christmas home tour - Day 12

12 Days of Christmas, Day 12, via Funky Junk Interiors

2012 Christmas JUNK home tour at Funky Junk Interiors - p.s. everything was FREE

Christmas decorating is such a 'big' time of year. We give it so much attention and thought and go through a ton of work to make our homes lovely for the season.

Spending can be hard on the pocket book too. But hopefully my little Christmas junk tour that cost me absolutely nothing will be an inspiration for those that truly can't spend a dime this season.

I've been in that place before where I had absolutely nothing to spare. So that's unknowingly become my mantra of sorts. Pushing your creativity a notch higher and creating something with things you already have.

I truly intended to buy a few new things, but I kept creating ideas out of nothing, so I honestly didn't need to! Except for those crazy white mini lights that go out half way through your decorating of course...

Anyway, welcome to my 2012 Christmas JUNK home tour! There are a few new pictures as well as a recap on what you've already seen.

I hope you enjoy my free take!

Greeting you at the front door is a chevron twig garland in lieu of a traditional wreath.

Stairway

An evergreen and twig garland guide you all the way up the crate styled stairway.

Those indeed are real apples hanging on with ornament hooks. Only one has fallen off so far. :)

The kitchen

Our home is an open floorplan, with the kitchen island set on an angle posing centre stage.

The 'wrong way' sign above the stove is a gentle poke at myself due to not being a true blue foodie type. :)

The junk centrepiece will be moved upstairs closer to Christmas. I just like working with a really bare island daily. Isn't it so nice and... bare?!

The Christmas kitchen windows were decked out with some spray snow, a few vignettes and an overhead garland hung from an old Farmers Market sign.

The twig chandelier got lightly touched with a few icy Christmas ornaments.

The number two is for my son and I.

Livingroom

Our living room is the perfect size for a sofa and 2 chairs. It's cozy and just enough!

On the old gate screens sit a snowy Christmas card wreath, the perfect way to display either new or cards from a Christmas past.

The Christmas tree forest in a crate take centre stage in front of the picture window. Love how they make just enough impact without taking much room.

On the coffee table sits a pretty little vintage typewriter. Hydrangeas, fresh greens and a pomegranate add just the right amount of Christmas bling without interfering with the table space.

The coke inspired Christmas fireplace with it's snowy crackling fire hearth is ready for you to sit back and enjoy a few Christmas specials. Don't forget to bring the fresh coffee and sugar cookies!

Treeless ladder Christmas tree via Funky Junk Interiors - Christmas home tour 2012

Desiring for some eclectic fun, a step ladder was quickly morphed into a makeshift treeless ladder Christmas tree just for fun. What was meant to be temporary is probably destined to stay till January 1st! Just don't tell my real tree lovin' son...

The bedroom

A little seasonal cheer transpired with a Christmas decorated horsegate headboard.

After the evergreen garland went up, the works was frosted up with some faux snow.

A little button garland adds just the right amount of additional homespun charm.

  13. I love your kitchen and the "wrong way" sign! I have an old gas station "self service" sign hanging in my laundry room. It used to reside in the kitchen above the sink. It doesn't seem to work no matter where I put it. I'm amazed that my husband just disregards it. Just kidding!

  14. I really like the more muted rustic Christmas look compared to the more typical gaudy decorations that most people have in there homes - looks like a German log cabin with roast on the fire and mulled wine on the stove!

  20. Hi Donna, I so enjoyed these 12 days of Christmas. Thank you, thank you. Many Christmas blessings to you and your son.

  21. Don't you love being able to change up your decor for nothing? I went to an all white theme this year and other than buying a vintage white wool blanket at the thrift store (I did play the waiting game and bought it on half price day), I didn't have to buy anything else to get a whole new look. Do it yourselfers--we may be a little crazy but by gosh, we know how to save a penny when need be!

  24. Love it all - and the fact that you didn't have to buy anything!

Of course I'm partial to your ladder tree - the cousin to mine! And that whoville set of trees in a trunk ... and that typewriter ... oh what don't I love?!

  25. You are always so wonderfully outside the box with your decorating Donna and I love it! The vignette on the island, the window frame with the rolling pin in it, your trees in a crate- so ingenious!

I made a treeless ladder tree at my booth this year and everyone just loves it!
