Is your furniture secured? Meghan's sad but important story.

Is your furniture safe? Read Meghan's story. You'll be taking immediate action, Guaranteed. By Love, Light, Laughter and Chocolate - One Mom's Journey

See that little dresser on the bottom left? Totally small, totally unassuming.

But Meghan's mom has a message for everyone out there, even if small children aren't in your own home.

Meghan's story HERE

is one of the most important and difficult reads you'll ever get through. But please do read it, take immediate action and share it, in honour of Meghan.

I posted this link on my Facebook last night and parents were removing their kids out of their beds fast asleep to ensure their safety! How is it we aren't reminded of this critical safety step?

Well, I'm here to do my part.

Looking back, I didn't secure our big furniture pieces when my son was young. I thought about it, but I figured big sturdy stuff would be just fine. Boy was I wrong.

Thank-you Meghan and Kimberly. You will never know how many children you've helped.

Feel free to pin the story from HERE.

And Facebook share from HERE.

  2. Thanks Donna for this information - I have posted about it too
Many years ago one of my twin daughters was trying to climb up a huge wall unit and it crashed down on - she landed inside the book shelf part so was safe - she's a twin as well.
Felt sick to my stomach reading this story - because even after that happened I DIDN'T
    secure the bloody thing.
This is such an important message - you're the best for bringing it to our attention -
I cancelled today's post to post about this instead.
    Much love,
    Suzan

  4. Thanks for posting this important info Donna. Just a message for everyone: This isn't just for people who have kids because the same thing can happen to adults.

An assistant who worked for my optometrist died from a 1,000 pound cabinet falling on her. The whole thing was a freak accident because they just got the cabinet that day, and the men who put it up were so tired they took a break before securing it. She happened to tie her horse to it (in her barn) when the horse got spooked. That's how it happened.

It's been well over 20 years since she died. I've often thought about how her husband must have blamed himself and how her poor young children grew up without a mother. I know she is still missed by a lot of people.

  5. Donna, if I was not a subscriber to your blog, I never would have read about this. It brought to memory a story similar to this, maybe even the same incident, somewhere in the back of my mind. I do not have children, but feel this is something that every parent should read. Thank you for bringing it to the attention of many more of us who wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Meggie's mom is certainly brave, and it is from this type of courage that many more children can be saved. A public service announcement for this type of issue should be aired regularly. I pray that someone who has this capability will read Meggie's story and develop one. Thank you for your part!

  6. I knew about this, in principle, because a lot of flat-packed furniture (think Ikea) comes with either a warning to fasten it, or the screws and fixtures to do so. This probably doesn't affect a lot of children, but when it does, I am sure it must be devastating to the parents and family, as it is so easy to prevent.

  7. Donna, this is heartbreaking...so very sad. I'm posting about this on my blog today linking back to you and to Kim's blog. I don't have a large following, but hopefully I can reach some people. I had heard about doing this years ago when my kids (now 32 & 36) were little but didn't do it. I thank God that nothing happened. Thank you so much for sharing this story. It is very hard to read, but something that must be told.

  8. My wife read this to me the other night. We have an 8 month old and this really hit home. We were both in tears half way through the story. I am ... this week.. going to strap everything she will be able to climb on, her dresser, her book shelf, the entertainment rack, I do not want to have to go through this pain this poor lady is still going through.....
